Gus (Bruce) Nix

1936 - 2023

Gus (Bruce) Nix, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2023 at Cottage hospital in Santa Barbara Ca, with his son Jerry by his side.

Born September 8th, 1936 in Demorest Georgia to Joe Henry and Sally Mamie (Robinson ) Nix, Bruce was the 6th of 11 children.

The family moved to California in 1945 and settled in the five cities area. He attended school in Oceano, Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande, but did most of his growing up in Grover City(Grover Beach),.

At the age of 20 Bruce married and had 4 sons. He was remarried but that marriage didn't produce any children and also ended.

March 4th 1978 he married his forever love and was blessed with two sons.

Bruce lived in Lompoc over 50 years, during which time he and Patsy owned and operated a convenience store, Mission Hills Market and eventually Bruce's Prime Cuts. Along with his meat business, Bruce especially enjoyed the catering that came with it. If you have ever had his Santa Maria style BBQ, you will agree it was the best in the west.

While busy running his business, Bruce always had time for community, donating time and money in various events and causes. He served as President and board member for Mission Hills Community Service District for 35 years.

Bruce enjoyed being with family and catering their events, but he also enjoyed deep sea fishing , not only in California but in Alaska with his son (Jerry) granddaughter (Savanna) brother(Bill) nephew and great nephew.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patsy Nix of Lompoc CA , sons Gus ( Jackie) Nashville TN, Tom(Debbie) Las Vegas NV, Leon MO, Billy Ray, Atascadero CA, Tony(Stacey) Las Vegas NV, Jerry( Linda) Henderson NV. 17 grandchildren many great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren. Siblings Christine Shimek, Redmond OR, Joyce Nix, Santa Maria CA, Sue( Jim) Treichelt, Bill (Diane) both of Mesa AZ, Brenda Hannah, Bandon, OR. Nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews, other family members, and great friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Joe Henry and Mamie Nix, Brothers JB, Joe, Charlie and Boyce, and sister Orvalinea Marion, lovingly known as Lou.

I first met Bruce in 1979 while playing on one of his sponsored softball teams. Grew into a long friendship and when I moved away and came back to Lompoc, one of my first visits was to see Bruce. Rest in Peace my friend.
