Margaret Warrick Obituary

Margaret Leck Warrick

1955 - 2023

Margaret Leck Warrick was born on June 4, 1955, in The Dalles, Oregon and passed away on Friday April 21, 2023, in Lompoc, California at the age of 67.

As a child, Margaret, whom we called Peggy, lived in several towns in Oregon before her father took a job in 1960 as a teacher and the head football coach at Lompoc High School. Peggy did all of her primary and secondary education in Lompoc, graduating from Lompoc High School in 1973. After high school Peggy attended both Allan Hancock College and Cuesta College before she went on to finish her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1979.

While a student in college, Peggy married James (Jim) Warrick. They began their life together as students at Cal Poly and eventually moved back to Lompoc. Peggy took a job in Santa Barbara working for Burroughs Corporation. After two years with Burroughs, Peggy was hired by the City of Lompoc and worked in their Information Technology Department. In 1983, Peggy went back to Cal Poly as a Graduate Assistant Student and taught part time while completing her Master's Degree in Computer Science in 1984. Shortly after this, she was hired by Allan Hancock College and began a 30-year career teaching in the Business Department, culminating in several years as the Business Department Chairperson.

Peggy's greatest joys were travel, friends and most importantly, family. She and Jim traveled extensively around the country and the world. They visited five continents, including seeing North America from Panama in the south to Canada and Alaska in the north. Several trips to Europe, Asia and South America were also vacations they enjoyed together and just this past February, with 8 other members of her family, she spent three weeks in Australia and New Zealand. With friends that she has known since her childhood in Lompoc and others she got to know from her professional life, she and Jim were able to tour places like: China, Russia, Mexico and Hawaii.

Peggy's greatest pleasure was undoubtedly her family. One of 9 children, Peggy cherished her life in a large and sometimes crazy family. She was always able to remember and tell stories of growing up in a family so large and she couldn't imagine it any other way. After she was married to Jim, they had 4 children and 8 grandchildren. She loved to visit each of them and welcomed all of them to her home at any time. She loved to shop for both birthday and Christmas presents and never missed making her famous Green Cake for their birthdays. She would read stories or play games or even watch Big Trucks for hours on end with the little ones. She had such great energy that seemed endless when it came to spending time with her babies. She will always be remembered for the love that she had for each and every member of her family.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Jim, her children and their families: Jackie and Jorge Cordova and their sons Jaeden and Luke; Joe and Holly Warrick and their sons Jameson and Tripper; Flynn and Josh Pehle and their daughters McCall and Dakota; Lexie and Beau Mabery and their son Bronson and daughter Vienna. She is also survived by her mother: Shirley Leck, siblings: Mike Leck (Maryann), Nancy Joyal (Steve), Mary Leach (Stan), Dan Leck (Maureen), Cathy Romain (Kirk), Sarah Leck, Leslie Leck and Ralph Leck (Ann). In addition, Peggy is survived by 80 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Leck.

A service will be held on May 27 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Mission Hills at 1:00pm followed at 3:00pm by a reception at the Mission Club dining room. Peggy & Jim were always so hospitable when I was traveling from Kansas to visit family in Lompoc. My wife and I also have fond memories spending a week with Peggy and Jim at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. You will be missed Peggy...you are now in the safe hands of our Heavenly Father,

To Peggy's Family,
I worked with Peggy at Allan Hancock College and actually shared an office for a little while with Peggy when I first started at Hancock in 1996. She was always in a great mood, laughed a lot and of course, we had Angels Baseball in common. Peggy gave me a few giveaway items that I will cherish that she got at the games because she knew I loved the Angels just as much as she did. I bought some of the season tickets from her when she had season tickets too. It was great to go to so many games when we were in Southern California and fun to talk about the team with Peggy.

Peggy will be missed dearly and I am so glad I got to know her and work with her at Hancock. She was an awesome instructor, colleague and department chair. I know she will be missed by her large family and she was so lucky to have such a great life and wonderful family (that she talked about often).
My heart and prayers go out to you.
Love, Jody Derry (Business Faculty, Allan Hancock College)

I had the privilege of working with Peggy as part of the Computer Information Systems program (CBIS) at Allan Hancock College. What I remember most about Peggy was her laughter and her bubbly personality. I am thankful for the welcome that she gave me to the college when I was hired 16 years ago. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity of learning the art of teaching while meeting the needs of our students as a Hispanic serving Institution. As a fellow Catholic I appreciate the little gestures the Peggy did for me when I first got sick and had to have surgery. She came to my house, washed the dishes in the sink and gave me a rosary which I still have to this day. Peggy was a warm person, always willing to have serve and ready to step up to any challenge. I pray for Peggy: Eternal rest Grant on to Peggy, O Lord, and let prepare to a light shine upon her and may her soul and all the souls of the Faithful departed through the mercy of God Rest in Peace. Amen.

I just found out she is gone. She was so lovely, knowledgeable & strong. One of my best memory is her ability to create a computer program & have a conversation with you at the same time. She will be missed.

Peggy thank you for all your encouragement to keep moving forward. You were something really special as an instructor who inspired us all to do better and set the bar higher. You will be missed, the world is alot darker and smaller without you. Everyone will miss your optomistic outlook!

I/we only met Peggy a few times, but she was always a charming and gracious hostess. We would like to express our condolence and sympathy to the entire Leck family, but especially to its beloved matriarch Shirley. This Lompoc family has come to mean so much to ourselves and others. We join them in mourning their loss, but also in celebrating the life of their daughter, sister, wife, and mother.
