Mattie Stine Obituary

MATTIE STINE
1984 - 2008

Mattie Stine passed away following an early morning single-car accident near Solvang on Tuesday, October 8.
She was born July 16, 1984 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Greylon and Claudia Stine, joining with sister Hallie to make a foursome. The family moved to the Central Coast in 1985 and have since resided in Lompoc.
Although Mattie hated water as a child, she eventually decided to swim and surf, and that she did! Soon after, she graduated from Lompoc High in 2002, and attended Hancock College. Mattie enjoyed life-camping, snowboarding, fishing, playing cards, her work in food service (currently at Alisal Guest Ranch), and hanging out with her many circle of friends. All those friends kept her busy, happy and always effervescent. She especially enjoyed going to Klamath Falls and spending time with all the family in Oregon.
She is survived locally by her parents Claudia and Greylon Stine, sister and brother-in-law Hallie and Cody Smith, aunt Julie Diani, cousins Tony and Mary Beth Diani. Much loved family in Klamath Falls, Oregon includes aunts and uncles Tom and Donna Seater, Barbara Brown, Greg Stine; cousins Tammy Tripett, Rob Seater, Tim Brown, Cory Brown, Rachelle Hiliard, Trevor Stine, and Ashley Stine and their children.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, at 1:00 p.m., Jalama Beach near Lompoc. Graveside services will be held October 15 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, officiated by Eternal Hills. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mattie's memory to The Friendship House, 880 Friendship Lane, Solvang, CA 93463.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.

Dearest Claudia and Greylon. You and all of the family are in my prayers. God bless all of you.Just a few words to help you along the days to come.

In the Arms God
We don't like to say good-bye to those whom we love. Whether it be at a school or a cemetery, separationis tough. It is right for us to weep, but there is no need for us to despair. They had pain here. They have no pain there. They struggled here. They have no struggles there. You and I might wonder why God took them home. But they don't. They understand. They are , at this very moment, at peace in the presence of God.
When it is cold on earth, we can take comfort in knowing that our loved one is in the warm arms of God. And when Christ comes, we will hold them, too.
May you find peace in the Arms of our loving Father, God

To the loving family of beautiful Mattie Stine,
I didn't know Mattie very well, but I knew well enough of her, as we attended middle, and high school together graduating class of 2002. I shared a few classes with her, and what fond memories of her that I have, I hold dear in my heart. It pains me so, to have to be typing out my condolences on a website, because she has passed, but I know in my heart, her life here on earth was just as beautiful as it is now in her heaven. I wish you all great love & laughter through Mattie's memory in your time of loss. I know she's watching over you, and we will all see Mattie's luminous smile once again. It will never be forgotten, and neither will she. God bless you all, and may you find strength in your moments of weakness in the face of your little Mattie, and her love that still lives for you. My sincerest condolences.

Claudia, darling, no one should have to face this kind of tragedy once, let alone twice, in their lifetime. I do believe in afterlife and the exchange of energy, and I truly believe there are three generations of wonderful Koop girls up there watching over you to bring you through this time of sadness.
I am heartbroken for your loss and will keep you and your family and your sister Julie, my old friend, in my prayers.
Stay strong, and celebrate the gift of Mattie's life every day!
Thinking of you,

Dear Stine Family: I met Mattie a couple of years ago in enology (winemaking) at Hancock, and while since I had just a few chances to be around her, I was struck by Mattie's megawatt smile and the kindness she shared with everyone. Claudia, the mother-daughter bond you two shared was obvious to anyone graced by your presence. I wish you peace and strength in this time of sorrow.

Stine Family,
My husband Andrew worked with Mattie at Alisal and my dad Joe Bendele coached Hallie at Hancock when she played softball. I only met Mattie once but Andrew spoke fondly of her and what a nice and funny person she was. I am very sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers daily.

Dear Claude, Graylon, Hallie & Cody My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so sorry about Mattie, she was such a light in the world. Her smile was absolutely contagious! It was impossible to be sad about anything when she was around.

It is sometimes hard to understand God's Plan and what his need could possibly be to bring her home to Him before she should be there. You will all be together again and then she will be able to explain the wonders of His world to you directly. I am sure Jim is taking good care of her until you can do it yourself. Please come see us anytime if you need to get away.

We love you all so much!

Dear Stine Family,

I had the great pleasure of going to school with Mattie for middle and high school. She was always the sweetest person and had the greatest smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember our Junior year we had chemistry together and she said that I always found a way to make our class fun. Its good to know that I made a difference in her life as she did in mine. She will be greatly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of having her be a part of their life.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mattie's Parents & Sister,
I worked with Mattie for a few months at Hancock College, and I can say that her sweet personality and big smile is still remembered by me today. I know all to well how heart breaking it is to lose a younger sibling so unexpectedly (I lost my little brother (26) in 2006 very unexpectedly. The pain is indescribable.) and to watch my parents pain of losing their baby boy, has been horrible.
I am so sorry for your loss, there are no words I can say to lessen your pain, but I wanted you to know that I met Mattie in 2003 and only worked with her a short while, but I've always remembered her, something about her kind spirit. May yours and others memories of Mattie bring you some peace during this time of enormous grief. God bless you all.
