Patrick Donovan Obituary

Patrick Timothy Donovan

December 31, 1956 January 12, 2023

Patrick Timothy Donovan was born on December 31, 1956, and passed away on January 12, 2023. He spent several days in Cottage Hospital before succumbing to his ongoing health issues but was lovingly surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Lisa and his father Lawrence. He is survived by his children Michael, Jason, Justin, Heather, Lawrence, and Samantha, grandchildren Caleb, Joseph, Isabelle, Titus, Gavin, Hailey, Keirra, Jayden, Cindy, Allianne, Paisley, Noah, Donovan, Memphis, and (bun in the oven), mother Bonnie, siblings Jacquelan, Steven, Erin, Bonnie, Shannon, Brenda and Kenny. The mental hardships of carrying on after his loving wife, Lisa, was taken from him so early, seemed more than his heart could bare. I'm sure he knew God was saving a place for him, next to her, in heaven. Our hearts are lost at the depth of our suffering. This has created an eternal hole.

In our lives that we will never be able to fill. We can only hope to have such love in our lives, that even death cannot break the bond. As a child, Patrick grew up in the city of Carpinteria with his parents Larry and Bonnie, and his seven siblings. At a young age, Patrick became an Eagle Scout, with Troop 139. This is where he learned many useful outdoorsman skills and was awarded the Ad Altare Dei medal. In high school, he was an active member of the football, tennis, and track teams. He studied art and cooking and was also Captain of the Chess club. He graduated from Carpinteria High school in 1975. At the age of 18, he joined the Marine Corps, following in his father's footsteps, and served for 13 years. He then began his long career as an electrician. This would eventually lead to him starting his own company, P&L Construction, with his loving wife Lisa, and their five amazing children.

He taught his boys the Electrical trade and his girls the intricacies of the office. He ended his Electrical career working for the Department of Defense at Vandenberg Space Force Base, alongside his eldest son Michael. He was a man of many passions, such as golfing, fishing, cooking, guns, frogs, and of course being a husband, father, and grandfather. He always sought comfort at his cabin in Kernville, where he spent many wonderful moments with his family. Let us remember Pops, as his family, friends, and colleagues called him, as a boisterous, charismatic soul that spoke his mind. Sometimes rough around the edges, he was not easily persuaded to go against his own way of thinking. I believe that's what made him a good father and teacher. And those that knew him best always carried some sandpaper. He was a proud Marine to the end, always wearing one of his many Marine Corps hats. We hold a special place in our hearts for you and a love that is eternal. You will be missed too much all the time and every day Pops. Semper Fi!
