Ronald R. Hookland
Ronald R. Hookland was born October 10, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota and died peacefully in his home in Vail, AZ on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.
Ron is survived by his wife, Helen, of 53 years; their five children: Tara (Rene') Knechtle of Tucson, AZ; Keith (YongSuk) Hookland of Newport News, VA; Lynda (Anthony) Stevens of Lancaster, CA; Cynthia, aka Binky (Mark) Wilson of Pismo Beach, CA and Ronald (Veronica) Hookland II of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Vanessa Knechtle, Kristopher and Daniel Hookland, Misia Hookland, Zachary and Taylor Wilson, Ronald G., Chadet, Keila, and Rhiannon Hookland and great grandchildren Gypsy and Roan Hookland; his sisters: Lorraine (Clare) Peterson of Pomona, CA; Marlene (Ed) Geary of Longview, WA; Joan (Bill) Porter of Cambridge, MN; brother Butch (Ruth) Hookland of Grand Rapids, MN and his Honorary daughter, Diane Walters of Lompoc, CA.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth and father Christen, his brother Robert and sisters Joy and Ruth.
After serving 26 years in the USAF, he retired from Vandenberg AFB and lived in Vandenberg Village until 2003, then relocated to Vail, AZ.
Ron shared his generosity and love with his wife, children, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his friends. He never said no to anyone who asked for his help; he never hesitated to offer a helping hand.
Ron loved traveling, camping, diving in the Red Sea, collecting sea shells from the Red Sea, fishing, lake trips, theme park trips, church events and his treasured coin collecting. He also enjoyed hobbies such as woodworking, ceramics, string velvet boat art and wine making and he enjoyed giving away his crafts as presents. Ron was one Norwegian who was proud of his heritage and happily participated in all Minnesota Club activities.  Ron truly went out of his way to make sure that everyone whose life he touched had what they needed.
He will always be remembered for his generosity as a sign of his love. He will forever be missed.

Dear Helen and family,

When nothing on which to lean remains,
When strongholds crumble to dust:
When nothing is sure but that God still reigns,
That is just the time to trust.

It's better to walk by faith than sight,
In this path of yours and mine:
And the darkest night, when there's no other light
Is the time for faith to shine.

My Christ comfort your hearts.

Love
Jan Andreasen
