Thomas Hayes Obituary

Thomas Hayes

May 17, 1956 - November 4, 2025

Thomas "Tom" passed away peacefully on November 4, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 17, 1956, in Lompoc, CA to Thomas and Jean Hayes, he grew up on the family ranch alongside his siblings. After losing his father suddenly at the age of 9, Tom and his siblings took on the responsibilities of the ranch - a challenge that shaped his lifelong dedication to hard work, family, and the land.

A graduate of Lompoc High School, Class of 1975, Tom began working during his late high school years for the Bixby Company/ Cojo Jalama as a day cowboy. He later partnered with his brother Denis in farming and ranching, a profession and passion that defined much of his life. He married his wife Lisa (Cromp) Hayes on January 14, 1984.

Tom was happiest on horseback, working cattle, or driving the hills checking cows. Later in life he started barbequing and took pride in cooking the meat to perfection. He enjoyed catering for many local events. He was a hard working man who loved his family deeply and nothing made him more proud than being a Papa.

Tom was a member of the California Cattlemen's Association, Lompoc Elks Lodge # 2274, and American Legion Post 211. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Hayes; daughter Marissa Luna (Cameron); son Tommy Hayes (Oonagh) and his four grandchildren Reece and Harper Luna, and Olive and Evelyn Hayes. He is also survived by his sister Josie Manos, and brothers, Denis Hayes (Sheri), and Jerry Hayes, nephew Alex Fox, and brother and sister in law Gary and Susie Cromp, nieces Miranda and Ashley.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Hayes and Jean Hayes Ohl; his stepfather Cecil Ohl; and his sister Mary Fox, as well as brother in law Mitch Manos.

Tom's strength, kindness, and unwavering work ethic will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved deeply and the land he worked with pride.

A private burial will be held for the family. A celebration of his life will take place at Lompoc Elks Lodge November 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lompoc HIgh School Athletics Department or Lompoc FFA in Tom's memory.
