George Adamson Obituary

George Wallace (Wally) Adamson has officially retired from this life after passing away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Lansdowne, VA. Wally was surrounded by loving family in his final days and hours. We so appreciate God's grace to enable many dear friends and extended family to have a chance to say their final goodbyes to him while his humor and stoic perseverance shined through to the last. For everyone who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Wally, his legacy to family and friends will forever be his unmatched wisdom, his boundless generosity, and his ability to make people feel valued. Wally was cut from the cloth of strong midwestern Iowa roots. Born on August 24, 1931, to Neil and Marjorie Adamson of Des Moines, Iowa, he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1953 where he met his beloved wife, Jane Hertig Adamson of 61+ years. Wally is survived by his three children, Steve (Tracy), Martha Cislo (Greg) and John, six grandchildren, Bryan, Jordan, Jenna, Adam, Olivia and Cassady, and three great grandchildren, Bradley, Beau and Ben. Wally also has eight nieces and nephews, all of whom looked up to him as the family patriarch. Wally is pre-deceased by his brothers Neil and David, and his sister Marjorie. Colonel Adamson was an Army Officer for 23 years with tours of duty including Korea and Vietnam. Wally had a highly regarded career including Commanding Officer of the 222nd Combat Support Aviation Battalion in Vung Tau, RVN. He, Jane and the family moved frequently... 21 different homes with Steve born in Nurnberg, West Germany, Marty in Ft. Carson, CO and John in Ft. Rucker, AL. After his retirement from active military duty in 1976, Wally launched into an equally successful and lengthy career in real estate where he was the Broker of the Vienna/Oakton office of Weichert Realtors (formerly Shannon & Luchs) throughout the '80's and '90's. His Tuesday morning Sales Meetings were legendary! For the past 17 1/2 years, Wally has been a positive and happy fixture in Lansdowne Woods (formerly Leisure World of Virginia). The family wishes to thank the many dear friends of Wally's at Riverview condominium, especially this past decade after the passing of his dear wife Jane. All of his friends (old and new) and activities with his "Riverview Battalion" have been a constant source of joy for him. Wally was part of the Silent Generation who grew up in the aftermath of the Great Depression and endured World War II on the home front. He lived a life defined by service-to his country, his family, and his many friends. One of Wally's favorite historical figures was Winston Churchill who so eloquently expressed: "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Soldier on Colonel Adamson. A full military service with honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date still to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department Station 6, www.ashburnfirerescue.org/support-us/annual-fund. Wally was our 222nd Aviation Battalion Commander in Vietnam. He attended several Skymaster Reunions from 2008 to 2018.
I invited him for dinner at my daughters home in Leesburg. We had a great time recalling events we experienced.

Fondly remembering fun times that our parents (Wally, Jane, Forest, and Sally) shared together at Ft. Benning and then in Virginia. We were so happy to see Wally and Marty again in December. Thinking of you, Marty, Steve, and John and your families as you remember your wonderful father and mother.

Very sad to learn of Wally's passing. Was at NVAR just a couple of weeks ago and was swapping Wally story's with another committee. Loved his positive energy and words of encouragement. Definitely a life well lived!!

I had the privilege of working for Wally at the Vienna/Oakton office of Weichert Realtors as his Office Manager. I loved working for him and hearing his stories. He had this wonderful system of Post-it Notes to help him remember all the things he had to do, and therefore me. Wally and Jayne were both loving, kind and dedicated to their family, friends and fellow Realtors. Wally was an excellent example of leadership and integrity to me and many others and though he will be missed he deserves the peace of his next journey. He will always be a friend to me and others.

This is a difficult message to write to Wally’s family. Why? Because, as they well know, there can only be one such as Wally - kind, thoughtful, generous, humorous and caring.
He is at peace and I send loving thoughts to his family, especially Marty, Steve, John.

Wally and I were new ("rookie") real estate agents at the same time, going through training, etc.
It was a joy to know him - always a special bond, sharing the ups and downs of starting this career.
He will be remembered for his friendliness and many successes in real estate and will be missed by many.
My thoughts are with the family.

Wally was also a great help to his fellow managers and Weichert Realtors through his example and many contributions. He could be tough and direct when needed, and had a loving heart of gold. Wally was my real estate manager, mentor, friend, and father figure to me as well as many others. During his successful run as the Managing Broker of the Weichert, Realtors Vienna Oakton office, he inspired the agents to strive to our highest potential. He created a family atmosphere in the office and always took time to listen to any and all of our trials and tribulations and gave sage advice when necessary. He let the agents run free to develop business "our way" while standing ready to lend a guiding hand when needed. In addition to coaching us to "list and sell", Wally never let us forget that we needed time for our personal lives and families for a healthy balance of work and play. Wally, Jane and their family merged with our families to became one big family. He and Jane cared about each and everyone of the agents and were always interested in how everyone's children were doing and what their accomplishments were. Wally was the patriarch of this extended family and graciously and generously took care of his flock and fold. Literally everyone in Northern Virginia real estate (Brokers, agents, lenders, attorneys, etc) knew who Wally was and treasured their relationship with him. There has only been one Wally Adamson, and the world has been a better place because he was here. I was truly honored to have known Wally for 40+ years and to be able to call him my friend. He will be sorely missed by all.

Wally and Jim<br />Lifelong friends.

Wally was such a great friend of Cliff's and I got to know him through Cliff. He was such an optimistic fun guy and it was always a joy to be in his company. So glad we were able to celebrate his 90th with him. It was our last good time together. May they find one another in heaven.

Grandpa. What a life you have lived. Thank you for being everything you were to Bradley and I. Your legacy lives on forever. Please give my Mom (who thought so highly of you) and Grandma a big hug from me, that we miss them so much but will eventually be together again. That you all will continue to watch over and guide us with your love. Memories of you are everlasting and in our hearts and mind always. Till we see one another again. Love your Grandson, Bryan.

Wally was my good friend for 72 years and fellow soldier. We started out in the Army together and our families shared a number of assignments and many good times over the years. Wally was known for his sense of purpose, organizational skills, good humor, loyalty, and gravitas. But mostly for his love of Jane, Steve, Marty, and John. One final salute good friend!

Wally was my grandfather-in-law, and I’m grateful for his time in my life. In his final days, we had the chance to talk on the phone.. Even in those moments of discomfort - he STILL maintained his great sense of humor, and imparted meaningful words & advice that I’ll cherish forever. You will be deeply missed; my love goes to you and the many friends/family that will miss you on earth.

The Wal' was so much loved and now so fondly remembered! He was the greatest manager, role model, leader, trainer and friend! After I worked for him 15 years, I have thought of him so many times since. I was so glad to have a nice visit with him in Texas a few years ago and have enjoyed his hand written notes he has sent me numerous times! My picture with him is still on my desk, ever since I left Virginia and moved back to Texas. He was such unforgettable, a great character!
I'm so sorry for your loss, Marty, Steve and John! (I wish I could be there for Wally's services.) Hugs to you great three "kids"!

I loved this man with all my heart. Now my heart is heavy with grief, but also rejoicing that we will be together again as a family for eternity. In the meantime, I asked him to give mom a big hug and tell her I miss her. I also asked my dad to visit me in dreams and visions so we'll see if he does. He fought a good fight. Rest in peace my sweet, generous dad. Love, Sis (Marty)
