John Halley Obituary

John Mack Halley, affectionately known as Mack, passed away on May 6th, 2024, peacefully in his sleep after a courageous fight with Alzheimer's dementia.

Born to Angelyn (McDonald) and John Maxim Halley on April 4th,1947, Mack was a cherished member of the Myrtle Beach and northern Virginia communities throughout his 77 years.

Mack was a proud graduate of Oxon Hill High School in 1965 and would later earn his Associate Degree in Police Science in 1978. In 1967 Mack joined the Navy Air Corp Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1972. Mack continued his public service when he joined the Fairfax County Police Department. Retiring in 1994, he received letters of commendation during his time as a crime scene detective. Mack served a short time with the Greensboro Police Department in North Carolina and with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Department. He finished his law enforcement career with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 2013. Stories of solving cases with colleagues who became lifelong friends have been shared with many of you over the years.

Mack was very active and enjoyed the outdoors, especially bicycling and fishing. He spent his indoor time volunteering at the animal shelter every week. He loved sharing his love of and compassion for animals with others.

In 2018, Mack married the love of his life, Beth Cadieux, and together their life was filled with love and laughter. In 2021, Mack and Beth followed their retirement dream in moving to Myrtle Beach, SC. His greatest joy in retirement was being Granddad to Riley and Kayla.

Mack is preceded in death by his parents Angelyn and John, his brother Donald Stewart, and son Brian. Mack's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Beth; sister, Lydia and her husband Harold Cole; step-daughter Ashleigh, her husband Zach Curtis, and their daughters, Riley and Kayla; step-daughter Chris and her husband Richard Broderick; niece Erin and husband Owen McBride, and their sons, Henry and Hudson; and nephew John Cole and wife Katherine, and their children, Lily, Fisher, and Ellis. His friends and colleagues will also miss him dearly.
