Joseph McKinley Obituary

Joseph D. McKinley, 81, of Locust Grove, VA passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in hospice care. Joe was born on August 26, 1943, in Freeland, PA, the son of James McKinley and Margaret Phillips McKinley. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers James, Robert, Donald, Paul, and son, Gregory Sebastian McKinley. Joe is survived by his sons Joseph M. McKinley (Krista) of Fredericksburg, VA and Donald J. McKinley (Lori) of Purcellville, VA. He leaves the legacy of 8 grandchildren: Sierra, Alexis, Reilly, Caroline, Kathryn, Zachary, Judson, and Delaney.

Joe retired as an Air-Traffic-Controller (Washington Air Traffic Control Center-D area) in 1993. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Joe loved the LORD, his 3 sons, and their families. He loved the US Navy and being an air-traffic controller. Joe enjoyed golf, loved the Oakland Raiders, F-1 racing, Indy cars, sports cart, and traveling to the port cities of the south and southeast. Joe lived for family vacations to North Myrtle Beach, SC.

Our father attended every single baseball, soccer, and football game we participated in. He took great pride and joy in teaching us the things he loved such as playing catch with baseball and football. Our father loved sports cars. He used to take us for rides after school and shared with us the best back roads in Loudoun County. A practice that we have passed along to our children.

Our father taught us about integrity. When we lost our brother Gregory (age 14) in an automobile accident, our father paid child support through what would have been his 18th birthday when he wasn't even obligated to do so, kindly hand delivering it to our Mother, Barbara. This tells you everything about our father. He taught us about his mistakes. He taught us about constructive criticism, and the importance of growing from listening to it. Lastly, our father loved almost everybody. N. C.

A service will be announced at a later date.
