Bernadine F. Kregor
Bernadine F. Kregor passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Baptist Health Louisville. She was 93.
Bernadine was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 18, 1927 as one of five children to John Robert and Elizabeth Charlotte Knape Fallon.
She graduated from Mt. Mercy High School in Grand Rapids and Marygrove College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Philip J. Kregor, Jr. Together they raised five children and their dedication to each other lasted 71 years.
She and Philip were longtime members of St. Margaret Mary Parish, and were strong supporters of St. Xavier High School, Assumption High School and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville. She was a member of Queen's Daughters of Louisville.
She is preceded by her husband, Philip and siblings, Mary Catherine and Robert Michael Fallon.
Bernadine is survived by her five children: Kathleen A. Kregor, Michael J. Kregor (Kathy Dallas), Janice M. Kregor, Mark F. Kregor (Betty Baird), Philip J. Kregor; eight grandchildren: John M. Kregor (Beth), Jennifer Makris (Martin), Maggie Griner (Ben), Baird Hall (Lydia), Mollie Kregor, Paige Kregor, Chase Kregor & Elle Kregor; four great-grandchildren: Robert and Hannah Kregor, Elsie Hall and Neely Griner; and siblings, Margaret Qualmann and John E. Fallon.
Bernadine was the cornerstone of a very strong family and provided consistency, unconditional love, and confidence to all of those with whom she associated. In addition, she loved Irish folklore, German heritage, art shows, conversation, and Grand Haven, Michigan. She had the uncanny knack of converting mundane life happenings to memories that lasted 60-70 years. Her laundering of clothes was impeccable, her meals were unforgettable, and many kids would come to the Kregor house for chocolate chip cookies and apple cider. She made everyone around her feel special and loved, especially children. A special and subtle wink meant the world was ok and that you were so loved. She was the epitome of selflessness.
One of Bernie's favorite songs was MacNamara's Band. The first lines of the song were:
"Oh, me name is MacNamara, I'm the leader of the band
Although we're few in numbers, we're the finest in the land
We play at wakes and weddings and at every fancy ball
And when we play the funerals, we play the best of all
Oh, the drums go bang and the cymbals clang and the horns they blaze away
McCarthy pumps the old bassoon while I the pipes do play
And Henessee Tennessee tootles the flute and the music is something grand
A credit to old Ireland is MacNamara's band"
Bernadine Kregor was the leader of the Kregor clan. She was full of zest and merriment and balanced that with honor, loyalty and a strong sense of family. She will be greatly missed.
Her private Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Margaret Mary, 7813 Shelbyville Road followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a brief visitation starting at 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
