David Michael Wachelin died October 3 at his home surrounded by his family following a 21 year fight with multiple sclerosis and a brief battle with cancer.
David entered this world November 23, 1942, the second of three children born to the late George and Ruth Wachelin of Petoskey, Michigan.
David graduated from Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio and also met the love of his life during this time, Bonnie DeWitt. They married on March 13, 1965 at the Painesville United Methodist Church. David was the head of plant maintenance at Applied Optics in Sarasota, Florida until forced to retire due to his multiple sclerosis. Once retiring David had more time to enjoy himself gambling, playing the lottery and spending time with his loved ones.
David is survived by Bonnie, his beloved wife of 49 years, his loving daughter, Hollie (Mark) Pope; three grandchildren Jessica Pope, Janelle (Kristofer) Borchard, Jarren Pope; three great-grandchildren Sonny, Lively, Fell; and his sisters Nancy West and Sally (Rusty) West.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Wachelin and his oldest daughter Dana Selbe.
The family is requesting no flowers or donations, but would like to extend a special thank you to Heather Hawkins, Janelle Borchard and Fell Borchard for the amazing care and support that they provided in this time of need.
David's great smile, his beautiful blue eyes and positive outlook on life were contagious to everyone he met which made everyone instantly adore him. David leaves behind countless friends and family who mourn his passing.

Bonnie, Hollie, & Mick. My heart goes out to you all. David was a sweet gentle man. I am so lucky to have known him. Just know that he is in heaven with his lovley Dana. I remember the first time I met him. I could see those big blue eyes and huge smile from across the street. Wish we were still neighbors. Love you all so much. Max <3

I lived across the street from David and he would come over and we would always play Canasta. He was always happy and laughing. Sorry to hear one of my classmates is no longer with us.
