Dominic Spano Obituary

Dominic Spano

Louisville, KY - Dominic Spano passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. He will be forever missed and loved by his wife of 22 years Deb, and 3 daughters, who were his world, Lalanya (Bonnie), Madelyn (Tim) and Samantha. He was born on May 27, 1955 to the late Michael and Lena (Simonelli) and preceded in death by brother, Nick Spano. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Casale (Joe) as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends he considered family.

Dominic never met a stranger and helped all who came into his life. As many know, he was very dedicated to psychiatric-mental health and contributed to the field locally and nationally. In addition, he was also dedicated to his collections: monkeys, baseball memorabilia, and all things Beatles related. He was known for his eclectic style and would always have something unique to display within his home. He was well known where ever he went and seemed to touch the lives of many in Louisville and in other cities. His family requests that donations in Dominic's memory be made to your local behavioral health provider and/or the Salvation Army.

Per Dom's wishes a Celebration of his Life on this earth will be held in the future. Please visit www.NewcomerKentuckiana.com for more information and to leave a special message and tribute.

I worked with Dominic at Our Lady of Peace. He did so much to lead and take care of the special gero-psych program there. He was a strong part of a special and close leader team we had there for many good years. He was so very kind to me, and I was glad to tell him prior to his leaving, how much I had appreciated him and his informal mentorship. Of course, we felt like we knew his family as he often shared fun and loving stories. Little Sammy. Dominic always had a twinkle in his eye when it came to his family. Deb, thinking of you and the kids. Fond thoughts of Dominic.

Dominic and I were close when we were younger, and what I loved most about him was his kind, gentle heart. He was very sensitive towards those around him. He had a gracious heart . Although we had an age difference he never made me feel left out. He was generous and kind. He was also such a beautiful artist and loved to draw . He could draw anything. One day while drawing I was struggling to make a persons nose, but it wasn't a struggle for Dominic. He showed me over and over until I got it. He was my cousin and my friend. Although times and circumstances have come between us, to me he will always be that kind hearted, sensitive, gentle man. From reading this obituary and these messages, I am assured he was this way all his life, as he left his mark on all the lives he touched.
