Evelyn Rutledge Obituary

RUTLEDGE, Evelyn Tucker,

104, of Louisville, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

Born September 8,1913 in Hudson KY to the late Dow and Leora Tucker, she retired from the Property Valuation Office. She also was a sales clerk at the old Bacon's in Shively. Evelyn was a member and a former officer in the Retired Police and Firefighters Advocate and the Police Officers and Widows Retirement groups. She was also a KY Colonel.

Evelyn was a devout Christian and a prayer warrior. She was a member of First Alliance Church for over fifty years and a current member at Bethany Baptist Church. Evelyn loved her church families.

Evelyn was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed cooking for family and friends and enjoyed meeting people. She was a sweet, caring and loving person. She served as an inspiration to many, especially during her later years as she continued to be active.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her son, Justus; grandson Justus Jr.; granddaughters, Rebecca and Jessica; and great-granddaughter, Jessica.

She is survived by a son, Robert D. Rutledge (Mary); a step-son, Gerald E. Rutledge (Ruth); granddaughters, Rachel Rutledge Watrous (John) and Patricia Decker (Jimmy); seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to the loving and caring staff of the Pillars at the Masonic Home who Evelyn loved so much.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Highlands.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the "I Love Bethany" fund at Bethany Baptist Church or to Hosparus.

Such a sweet lady who will be greatly missed. So many times at Christmas she would make us her special cookies when most people her age would just be happy to get out of bed in the morning. Her energy and kindness were limitless. Thanks for the memories.

Sweet childhood memories of living next door to the Rutledges. She and my mother stayed in touch until my mother passed away in 1995, then we started a correspondence I will surely miss. Sending you sympathy.

Bobby,
Sorry to hear about your Mother. She lived a long and active life. Herman really loved her. She will be greatly missed.

Bobby, so very glad you had your mother for so many years! She was such a delight to talk to and an amazing woman. May she rest in peace.

Bobby, sorry for your loss, had no idea that your mom was still alive. My mother passed away 2 years ago (at 90) and I always called your mother my second mom. Will always remember your parents gave my wife then a rolling pin and told her to use it on me if I got out of line. My prayers are with you and your family.
