Francis Cusack Obituary

Cusack, Father Francis C.P.,

Father Francis Cusack, C.P. , 86, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Nazareth Home, Louisville, while convalescing from kidney surgery.

He was born William J. Cusack on February 3, 1930 of William J. and Helen Cusack (nee Curtin) who preceded him in death. A third generation Chicagoan, though growing up in a household closely associated with the Daley Democratic machine, he decided to serve people in the priesthood rather than in politics.

He entered the Passionist Preparatory Seminary in 1944, professed vows as a Passionist religious in 1951 and was ordained to the priesthood May 31, 1958. Father Francis served in several ministerial roles in Passionist administration. Pastoral roles included St. Gemma's in Detroit (1991-1995) and St. Agnes in Louisville, 1961-68, 1987-91 and 2012 until his death. In Detroit (1975-87), he conducted a ministry of preparing couples for marriage and celebrating the sacrament with them. Hundreds of couples were helped in this ministry. He served as local superior in Louisville, 1987-91 and 1995-96 and Chicago, 2007-11. He served as assistant local superior in Chicago, 2004-07 and Louisville, 2015-until his death.

A visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with a wake service at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m.. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Agnes. Following cremation, interment will be at the Passionist Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bosse Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Passionist Community, 1924 Newburg Road, Louisville. Kentucky, 40205.
