I was a friend of George from Yale. He was an amazing person. I did not realize he'd passed away and am in shock to find this out today as I was trying to connect with him to share the excitement of Bob Dylan winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. He shared his love of Dylan with me, calling me "Jules and Binoculars" and shared a love for literature, philosophy and fun. George made a lasting impact on my life, and although we fell out of touch, I will always remember him. My sincere condolences to his family.

George was my roommate my senior year at Yale, which I believe was his second year at Yale Law. This was in the spring of 1991, and meeting him made such an impression on me I later wrote this:
"He'd stood there in the door so cool and smart and worldly, talking about his stint in Thailand working with refugees, with his yin-yang earring and Harvard degree and the terrific short stories he'd had published in small but respectable literary reviews. He seemed like everything I wanted to be."
George took me to my first Kentucky Derby, and he was there for me the day my ex-girlfriend died. When he got his fellowship to Tokyo University in '91, he and I planned to share an apartment; I wish he hadn't had to give up the fellowship, because I can only imagine the adventures we'd have had.
He was a brilliant, gifted person, and I'm sorry for his family's loss.

Thinking of George and all the fun times we had with him over the years. An amazing mind and fun spirit. He leaves much to be proud of.

Dear Kelly and Family,
I am so sorry that George left this life at such a young age. He has been a significant person in my life ever since I first started hearing about him from my husband, Paul Crowson. It was great to meet George in person at mine and Paul's wedding. In later years, I enjoyed some very interesting, funny and meaningful telephone conversations with George. Rest assured that I will never forget him. My deepest sympathy to you and all of your family on his passing. I will always be grateful that I got the chance to know him.
