Banta, Ira Curtis, Jr. ,

98, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016.

He was a graduate of UofL Speed School, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Southeast Christian Church.

Ira was a chemical engineer for the U.S. Army Chemical Corps and Girdler Corporation. He was president and founder of Cepeda Associates Inc., supplying life support air purification equipment for the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine program.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty (Smith) and Ira Curtis Banta, Sr. and brother, Frank Banta.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Susan (Berry) Banta; sons, Mike (Marilyn) and Mark (Jana) Banta; grandchildren, Craig and Andrew Banta and great-grandson, Colton Steven Banta.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Highlands.
