Jacqueline Fresh Obituary

Jacqueline Finch Fresh

Louisville - Jacqueline Finch Fresh, 82, of Louisville, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.

She was born to the late Meryl B. and Hildred Tooley Finch on February 18, 1939, in Evansville, Indiana. Her family owned The Finch Funeral Home in Tell City, Indiana for many years. Tell City was near and dear to Jackie's heart, and a source of such fond memories. She wrote a heartwarming memoir full of wonderful stories of living above the town funeral home in the 1940s and 50s. Mayberry at its best!

After graduating from Tell City High School in 1957, she attended Hanover College, and graduated from Indiana State University prior to acquiring a masters degree in Special Education and Speech Pathology at Indiana University. Special education and speech pathology were truly her passion not only her profession. Her many interests included being an avid reader, bridge player, cook, IU basketball fan and a regular presence at the Norton Commons YMCA for yoga and swimming. She also was a member of the Jeffersonville Study Club (Indiana) and St. Luke's Episcopal Church (Anchorage, Kentucky).

She is predeceased by two sisters Judith Finch and Susan Finch Smith. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Douglas, daughter Susan Hunt (Dwayne), son Jason Fresh (Amy) of Mobile, AL, grandchildren Hillary, Hank and Sam Hunt, Brooke and Kristen Rachel. Jackie was lovingly known as "Non" to her grandchildren, as well as many of their friends. She had a warmth and generosity of spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 5, 2021, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1206 Maple Lane, Anchorage, KY. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday May 4, 2021, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waycross Camp and Conference Center, 7363 Bear Creek Rd, Morgantown, IN 46160 or the WHAS Crusade for Children, 520 W Chestnut St, Louisville, KY 40202.

Oh Jackie , I just found out today (July 15) that you are gone. I will miss out texts about politics, books, Masterpiece, movies and so much more. I will always cherish your friendship and our time together swimming at the Y and our meeting up for coffee and lunches. I missed you so much after I moved to Atlanta. I will never forget you. Donna

I was saddened to learn of the passing of my dear childhood friend, Jackie. So many wonderful fond memories of growing up in our small town. Sock hops, poodle skirts, slumber parties, and the first generation for girls to wear blue jeans to school! She told me that she had written her remembrances of her youth and life in Tell City in the 1940´s and 50´s, so that she could share them with her family and friends. It truly was a unique, peaceful time in which to grow up. I am hoping that these memoirs will be shared with friends. I would love to read them, too. When I read her letters that she wrote to me in that lovely handwriting of hers (that never changed from when we first learned to write in cursive !), I could almost hear her voice.
My sincere sympathy to Doug and all of her lovely family.

I first met Jackie 25 years ago at a Women’s Week retreat at Waycross Episcopal Camp and Conference Center. She was lovely—friendly, enthusiastic, bright and
a wonderful companion. Even though we only saw each other once each year for
four days I consider her a dear friend who will be greatly missed.

I first met Jackie a few years ago in the Wathen Heights neighborhood. She was pretty with a head full of white hair and a light blue walking outfit.
When I was invited to join the Jeffersonville Study Club, Jackie was one who really made me feel welcome.
She had an avid interest in learning and a fun way of presenting information to our group. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
You, her beloved family, are in my prayers as I seek comfort and peace for you.
