Burr, James E. "Jim" Jr.,

75, passed away peacefully at 12:25 AM on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 19, 1941 in Underwood, Indiana, the son of the late James Earl Burr Sr. and Virginia Ruth (LaMaster) Burr. Jim graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1959 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving his country as a First Class Petty Officer from 1959 to 1962 on the USS Goodrich and USS Strong. He continued his service in the U.S. Navy reserves from 1963 until his retirement in 1985. Jim was also a retired U.S. Postal Carrier in Scott County, retiring in 1992 after working for 29.5 years. He also worked for Gordon at the old Julian's Standard in Scottsburg, Indiana for a short time after retiring from the Post Office. He has been a member of the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church since 1969, where he formerly was a Adult Sunday School Teacher. In addition to his church, he was a member of the Moose Family Center 2324, Scott County VFW Post 6582 and American Legion Post 234. Jim always rode his exercise bike everyday, enjoyed Indiana University and Scottsburg Basketball, was a Cincinnati Red's Fan and avid Lottery Player. His parents died very young and he was raised by his grandparents Perry and Dona LaMaster. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl E. Burr and an uncle, Dale LaMaster. Survivors include his son, David Burr and his wife Gale of Austin, Indiana; two sisters, Phyllis Ramoni and her husband Fred of Pekin, Indiana and Sue Filling of Somers Point, New Jersey; an uncle, Robert LaMaster and his wife Dorothy of Richmond, Indiana; three aunts, Betty LaMaster Barrett of Franklin, Ohio, Mildred LaMaster Roush of Plainfield, Indiana and Ruth LaMaster of Scottsburg, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews, including James Langdon and Greg Ramoni who will serve as pallbearers. Special recognition to his caregivers over the last several months, David's mom and stepdad, Diane and Keith Dixon and also Dr. Kevin Rogers and Scott Memorial Hospital. Funeral Service: 1:30 pm Sunday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Saturday and after 11 am Sunday at Collins Funeral Home. Friends are asked to give a donation to their favorite charity in honor of Jim Burr c/o Collins Funeral Home, 465 W. McClain Ave., Scottsburg, Indiana 47170.
