James Condra Obituary

CONDRA, JAMES FRANKLIN "RED," 89, was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on August 17, 2011 just short of his 90 birthday.

He was born on August 25, 1921. He was a longtime member of the Portland Avenue Church of Christ where he worshiped faithfully every week. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 181 for 70 years where he was in great demand as the crane operator on big demo projects around Louisville and beyond until he was 81. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Carrie Condra; and his brother, William Condra.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen (Milby) Condra; children, Fred T. Condra, Judy Vaughn, Peggy L. End, and Jim R. Condra (Connie); grandchildren, Tammy L. Olschewske (Guy), Joey End, and Tracy Condra; great-grandchildren, Andalyn and Travis Olschewske; and numerous friends.

Funeral service will be noon Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Portland Ave. Church of Christ or Portland Christian School. Condolences to owenfuneralhome.com.

It's sad,
You had more grand children than they shared on here. I guess they didn't think we mattered, but you did.
I'm glad you visited me in Indiana.
I wish we would have had more time.

Grandpa,
Thank-you so much for being the wonderful man that you were and continue to be,just now from heaven. Your love for us, the example you set by the life you lived continues to live stongly in us. I consider the richest of gifts I have been given is being you granddaughter. As you would say, and Tammy reminded me last week of this saying of your "You did good GP"

When I would be standing outside in my yard .. I would hear a BEEP BEEP and someone yelling .. MY NAME IS SMALLWOOD.. I would know that Jimmy was driving by. He could always make me smile ... he was well loved by all and we all received the love back .

Red was my favorite VA patient, and a wonderful friend of my father. He's got a place waiting for him in heaven. Rest in peace, Red, tell the angels to keep your toenails trimmed buddy! Love, April Powell Wright (Sellersburg, IN)

Uncle Jim, we've never had enough time together here, but we'll have an eternity to share in heaven. Your gift to make others smile was so special. Heaven becomes a little more precious each time someone we love enters. Looking forward to seeing you up there. I love you, Claudia
