Jane Shane Obituary

SHANE, JANE E., of Louisville, born June 30, 1923, in Akron, OH, passed away peacefully at the Masonic Home on January 15,2009. She had been a resident at the Masonic Home for over nine years, and the caring staff there made her last years very comfortable. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Shane Jr. She is survived by her four sons, Dr. Charles B. (Dr. Dolina MacAulay), Stephen S. (Joan Deignan), Timothy A., and Jerry E. Shane. Jane, often called "Aunt Jane" and "Janie," leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to miss her warm smile and happy eyes. She was mother to many, as her greatest love was reserved for children. She knew well how to comfort young children, and spent many happy hours, not just with her own family, but working at her church, St. Matthews Baptist Church, in the nursery and at "mothers' -dayout.". She could play a game, read a book, play make-believe, and, in other ways, enthrall her young charges. Mom loved games and puzzles, and, even after a stroke in 1999, continued, until her death, to enjoy jigsaw puzzles. She also loved flowers, and had a collection of salt and pepper shakers, with a variety of shapes and types. Friends and family knew they could delight her with even such a simple gift. Our mother will be missed by many for her steadfast love, even in difficult times. She was slow to anger, and quick to forgive, and, as such, may have been taken for granted. Mom never thought of herself as special, but she had a quick mind, was an avid reader, and was also very good at puzzles. She was truly special to all of her family, and will always be loved by those who were touched by her gentle nature. The funeral service will be noon Monday, January 19, 2009, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, at the funeral home.

We always loved hearing our little granddaughters tell about their visits to see Grandma Jane and Grampa Charles. Those visits continued after we lost Grampa Charles and the memories continued to grow. We cherish the pictures, smiles and wonderful memories she left us through Melissa and Caroline. We will keep those memories alive always. God bless each of you who loved Jane. We are thankful that she came into our lives.
Love, Cissie and David Patton
