I didn't know John as well as I would have liked, but, it didn't take much to see he was a man after God's heart. Yes, he was a gift to you, but you were a gift to him as well. Your love and commitment to God and to each other was amazing.
While I'll miss seeing John's smiling face standing by the escalators on Sunday mornings. . . he's walking and talking with the Savior. How cool is that!

Dear Big John,
With the possible exceptions of nearly getting me shot after an infamous Taylorsville basketball game and causing me to spend a dark, cold, sandy sleepless night on a Hilton Head beach,
I truly enjoyed your company, conversation, comaraderie, competition, cleverness, and last but not least, charcoaled chops.
I'm sorry we didn't make it to Hidden Cove, but I'm sure there are some heavenly golf courses where you are now.
Here's some advice regarding your competitive nature; Let the "Boss" win occasionally on the links and during leisurely pick-up basketball games, don't "sissy-slap" any angels.
Forever your "black-sheep" brother-in-law,
Tony

Barbara, your life and your family are such wonderful tributes to John. You and John had a special relationship that was a Christian example for everyone who is lucky enough to know you. Thank you so much for sharing the family pictures. We love you and pray that God's Blessings will continue to shower you with faith and strength.

John Brownfield was one of the most Godly men I have met. It was an honor to know him and also teach him in Bible Study. My life is better because I knew John.

Barbara, you and your family are in my prayers. John was a great man who I looked up to in many ways. He will be missed. However, I bet he is now shooting the best round of golf he has ever played.

I met John Paul at Western Ky University in the fall of 1960. We spent many hours and almost every meal time together for that school year. I remember him as always being kind and fun loving. Unfornately, our lives went down different paths after that school year and we lost track of one another. The good times we had, have crossed my mind many times over the years. It is no surprise to hear that John Paul had a positive influence on many peoples's lives.

Dear Friends,
I have had many request for a recent picture of John, and so I am including the last picture taken prior to his decling health. Thank you from the depths of my heart for your love and support. What a rare and unique man, loved by everyone, and a wonderful Christan example of the joy you know when you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. John was a gift from God to me--he was my yesterday, my today, and my tomorrow. God will get me through-- not somehow, but TRIUMPHANTLY. Rejoice! John is with the Lord.

I HAVE NEVER MET MR BROWNFIELD OR BARBARA BUT I HAVE SAID MANY PRAYERS FOR THEIR COMFORT. I ATTEND FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN TAYLORSVILLE WHERE MANY OF YOUR FRIENDS ATTEND. I HAVE HEARD SOME VERY NICE THINGS ABOUT MR. BROWNFIELD AND SHARED TEARS WITH THEIR FRIENDS. MAY GOD BE WITH THE FAMILY DURING THIS HARD TIME. I KNOW THAT GOD IS WATCHING OVER YOU AND LAYING HIS HAND ON YOUR HEART. YOU NOW HAVE ANOTHER ANGEL IN HEAVEN HELPING YOU TO CONTINUE YOUR JOURNEY ON EARTH. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

I had the pleasure to work with John at Equitable (and then AXA). He was a truly genuine person who cared about others in every way. I was blessed to have known and worked with him.
