Joseph Speiden Obituary

Speiden, Joseph H. "Jay" III,

son of Catherine S. Speiden and Joseph H. Speiden Jr., passed away December 10, 2016 in Shanghai, China where he lived.

He was born in Memphis, TN on March 19, 1970. He graduated from Ballard High School and Denison University, majoring in English and Cinematography and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

A talented athlete, Jay started on Ballard's Dual State Championship Soccer teams in '87 and '88. He loved music, fishing, golf, and UofL basketball. His friendships spanned continents and the ages. His creative talents included film making, podcasts in Los Angeles (character personalities of his own invention), newspaper writing and reporting and freelance international marketing. He resided in Asia for a total of 12 years, including seven years in Shanghai. Jay definitely lived life fearlessly and of his own choosing.

Jay is survived by his loving parents, Katie and Joe Speiden; his fiancee, Xu Qun "Cin"; his sister, Mary Speiden Easterling (David); his brother, Robert Wilshire Speiden (Elizabeth); niece, Emily Easterling; nephew, Hayden Easterling; a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and a large number of loving friends. We will love you forever Jay and you will abide in Christ's care.

There will be a service celebrating Jay's life at noon Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1206 Maple Lane, Anchorage, KY, 40223. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. until noon at the church prior to the service Saturday. A private family interment will take place at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Memorials can be directed to KyCAD at Spalding University, 845 S. 3rd St., Louisville, Ky 40203
