Joseph Sweeney Obituary
died at his home on September 28, 2014, surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Louisville, to the late John and Ottie Pence Sweeney. He attended Ahrens Trade High School and served in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in Korea. He worked in the printing industry, the last 26 years at Publishers Printing in Lebanon Junction. He was an avid street rod enthusiast, active in local and national organizations and car shows.
Joe's survivors include wife Jennifer Sue Nelson Sweeney; daughter Melissa Dawn Roadcap (Bobby); son Michael Joseph Sweeney; and grandchildren Dylan Sweeney, Rachel and Sadie Roadcap, all of Louisville; a brother, John Marvin Sweeney Jr. (Judy) of Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law Frances R. Nelson Salyers (David); four nieces, two nephews, four great-nieces, six great-nephews, and many treasured cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Thelma.
There will be a Celebration of Joe's Life at noon on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, with Dignity Celebrant, Kathy Porter officiating, burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 2-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Because of Joe's love for street rods, we welcome any street rods to the visitation and/or procession.
The family suggests donations in Joe's name to Shop With a Deputy, FOP Lodge 25, PO Box 17127, Louisville, Ky 40217, or a charity of your choice.

Dear Joe,
Nine years have passed since you left us. We miss you now and always will. You would be 77 now, feeling proud of your children and marveling that your grandchildren are now young adults finding their ways in the world. You would be a wonderful Pop to two (with another on the way) little great-granddaughters who would run to you every time they see you. The love of your life would be by your side, enjoying every minute. She has "soldiered on," as the saying goes, teaching all of us how to survive with grace a terrible loss, but she misses you deeply. You are in our thoughts, and we love telling "Joe stories" when we gather. All of us look forward to seeing you again when our times come. Love, David and Fran

Can it really be seven years? It some ways it seems we just saw Joe just a few weeks ago; in other ways, it seems he has been gone for decades. Either way, he left us far too soon. We miss him as much as we did seven years ago. Love and hugs to Jennie and his children and grandchildren as they face another anniversary of his passing.

That was your own little slice of heaven while spending time with your handsome husband. I was extremely sorry to hear of Joe's passing. What a joyful man he was. Took a trip to smokies for the weekend for our anniversary and had beautiful weekend and saw a momma bear with 3 cubs playing. Really cool. But received a call Sunday morning that my Uncle Joe passed away. He was such a wonderful man and a real joy to be around and could always have u laughing uncontrollably. I will miss him terribly and ask for prayers for his wife, Jennie and kids, Michael and Melissa (Bobby) and grandkids. I know that my mom was welcoming him arms open wide. Love you Uncle Joe and you will be with us forever.

Message from Jennie
This morning my best friend, my lover, my husband passed away. It was very hard to say goodby to him. After 45 years of marriage and knowing him since we were 3, I have no idea how to live without him. I do want to thank all my Facebook friends for all the support you have given me and my family and ask for more prayers and support for me, Melissa, Mike and all the extended family through this new endeavor we have to face without Him. Joe was the best guy anyone could ever hope to know and I am extending my prayers and warm thoughts to all his close friends who also have to deal with this loss.
