Cotton, Josephine Engle "Jo",

88, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.

She was born on August 18, 1926 and was married to the late Neville Todd Cotton for 52 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Coldiron Engle and Charles Foster Engle, an infant son, her brother Robert Engle, and Sam Kirby Jr.

Jo was a devoted mother to her daughters and a beloved aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Cotton Excavating and Cotton Patch Farm. Jo and Neville developed University Mobile Home Park and Jo managed the park for many years. Jo and Neville enjoyed crappie fishing and breeding and showing Polled Hereford and Simmental cattle where they won awards at the state and national level. In the 1960's, Jo was instrumental through the Kentucky State Board of Nursing to make revisions to Kentucky's nursing laws that defined the practice of licensed nurses versus other health care providers.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Melva Jo Kirby of Richmond, Tamara Cotton (Bill Kraft) of Louisville, Carol Cotton of Louisville, Janie Cotton (Tom Campbell) of Germantown TN, and Peggy Mann (Joe) of Nicholasville. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Sam Armstrong, Brad Armstrong, Kirby Armstrong, Joseph Armstrong, Aaron Mann, Andrew Mann, and Elizabeth Brumley. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Miller, Bill Ramsey, Chris Ramsey, Jay Schroyer, Matthew Armstrong, and Frank Allen Gibson II. Surviving great-grandchildren are Samuel Armstrong, Luke Armstrong, Kaela Armstrong, Jeremy Teague, Melissa Teague, Corwin Armstrong, Matthew Armstrong, and Allie Armstrong.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 5 from 5- 8 p.m. at Oldham, Roberts, and Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at White Oak Pond Christian Church, 1238 Barnes Mill Rd, Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or gifts memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Ln, Richmond KY 40475 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675.
