Louis Peniston Obituary

NEW CASTLE PENISTON, LOUIS T., "L.T." 85, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion. He was a native of Lacie, KY, in Henry County, and a son of the late Tandy and Elizabeth Peniston. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, having served four years and two months in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was also a lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve. He attended Georgetown College and the University of Louisville School of Law, receiving his law degree in 1946. Peniston practiced law in New Castle for 58 years. He served in the Kentucky General Assembly for 25 years, 16 years in the House of Representatives and nine years in the Kentucky State Senate. He was the only Kentuckian who served in the Kentucky General Assembly intermittently during six decades, from 1946-1990. He served as a director and attorney for the Eminence Farmers Deposit Bank, attorney for the Henry County Public Schools and treasurer for Henry County Baptist Association. He was a charter member of the Henry County Historical Society and a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Lacie. He was a member of the Henry County Library Board, the University of Kentucky Development Council, UK Fellows, Kentucky Historical Society, Filson Club, Campbellsburg Grand Lodge of Kentucky #249, Carroll Royal Arch Masons #55, Carroll American Legion Post #0041, Middletown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #01170, Henry County Disabled American Veterans and the Madison, IN, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #524. He is survived by his wife, Mae H. Peniston of New Castle; a brother, William H. Peniston of Lacie; a sister, Mrs. William L. (Virginia) Costel of Louisville; and many nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Port Royal (KY) Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2004, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville, Department 52420, PO Box 36370, Louisville, KY 40233- 9901.
