Marion Braden Obituary

Braden, Marion Bernadine,

79, died peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Norton Hospital.

He is survived by his three sons, James, Andrew (Deborah), and Michael (Rebecca); seven grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Greg, Jordan, Jay, Noah and Emma; and two great grandchildren, Ava and Ben.

Marion, or "Knocker" as he was known to his friends, was a Louisville icon. As a proud small business owner his establishment, the Tavern, served as the local watering hole where a working man could grab a cold beer or hot lunch without breaking the bank. It is also where he served Thanksgiving dinner free of charge to anyone that walked through its doors for over 30 years. He was a wonderful story teller and had a long list of adventures to call upon to entertain his audience. He was also an avid golfer and skilled card player who liked to beat the odds whenever he had the chance. Although he could be a very formidable presence his friends and family knew a generous man who cared very deeply for those he loved.

The family would like to express its profound gratitude to the professionals of Norton Hospital and Hosparus for the dignity afforded him during his last hours.

Service will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the William R. Rust Funeral Home in New Haven, KY. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 and after 8:30 a.m. preceding the service on the 18th.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hosparus of Louisville.

Our prayers are with the family. We met Mr. Braden while delivering meals to him. Our adult members with Down Syndrome loved talking to him. He always gave them treats and taught them about Louisville history through conversations. He was a dear sweet man and we looked forward to delivering meals to him. Our members at Down syndrome of Louisville will miss him!
