Matthew Egger Obituary

Matthew Lee Egger

Matthew Lee Egger, beloved son, big brother, nephew, and uncle passed away on November 21, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky when he was struck by a car. He was a native of Louisville, Kentucky who grew up and lived on his family's horse farm. He frequented Port Isabel, Texas to visit his grandparents. It was there that he discovered his love of the ocean and fishing. In his thirty years of life, Matthew's eyes lit up the hearts of his loved ones. His smile and laugh were memorable and brought immeasurable joy. Matthew will always be remembered for being an avid ocean fisherman, hard-worker on his family farm where he loved caring for animals and nature, and a person who helped others. While boating on the Ohio River with his aunt and uncle, he even pulled a drowning swimmer out of the water and saved his life. Matthew was a hero to his mother more times than she can count in so many ways.

Matthew was also athletic and loved spending time with his family and friends. He won medals in downhill snow skiing as a young child. He loved to play basketball, board games, and cards. Matthew also enjoyed swimming, ice skating, and reading. He is survived by his grandmother, mother, father, brother, sister, nephew, and many others who dearly love him and miss him every second since his death. May Matthew's soul be at peace surrounded by love and know only kindness and joy in the kingdom of Heaven!

And he will raise you up on eagle's wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand. Psalm 91:1-16.

A prayer memorial was held by immediate family and closest friends by where Matthew took his last breath the week of his death. On Friday, December 18th a celebration of life will start at 1 PM and a Catholic mass will be held for Matthew at 2 PM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in St. Matthews. Masks are required. This will also be available on Zoom for those who may be unable to attend due to Covid19 restrictions. A small family memorial will be held in Port Isabel, Texas and South Padre Island in early summer.
