Darlene Dennis called George today to tell him that she had just heard from the Greensboro office about Mike's passing. George and I are so sorry for your loss of your dear husband Mike. He was a very fine man and it was quite obvious to us that he adored you, his children, and the grandchildren. Please know that we are praying for God's comfort for you.

Dear Mrs. Porter and Family:
When hearing the news I was so shocked and struck with sadness. Michael was a dear friend all through High School. My whole entire family became very close to Michael and my Father who is no longer with us treated him as a son (they are now up there working-out and having fun). Michael and I had tons of fun and may laughs as well as meaningful chats about life and expectations...He truly was a good friend and oh so dedicated to life and proving he can do it! Michael, did do it, and he did live this life we live to the fullest.
I have lived away as well for over 20 years and now back in Louisville. Michael seemed to find me wherever I was living from Orlando to LA to NYC to back in Louisville. He would call my brother Otto to talk about life, work and to find out where I was living and what I was doing. I finally got to meet him out one night and his wife Linda. WE had not seen each other in over 20 years. It was so good seeing him and meeting Linda-Michael was so happy and still had that High School Gleam in his deep-set eyes!
Mrs. Porter you raised a super son who did make a difference and enjoyed life!
God Bless and good to have seen you again, but under such a sad situation.

Mike was such a special person. He was always such a kind and caring friend, dedicated to his family and his jobs. Although we did not remain in touch over the years, whenever we did run across each other's paths, he was still the same person as always. It is so heart wrenching to hear of the circumstances of his death. It just reinforces the adage, live as Mike did...to the fullest. He was my first kiss and my first male friend (I went to an all girl's school). He will be forever remembered as the wonderful person that he was.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mike's death. He was a childhood friend from our St. Denis days and was a wonderful friend all those years ago. I have never forgotten him. I will keep the Porter family in my prayers.

I am very sorry for Mike's family . l knew Mike from the old Bishop David days. I watched Mike play football at St. Denis when he was in the 8th grade. I have known Mike as a Marine recruiter . He recruited my school when I was the Head Football coach at Bullitt Central HS . I know how his family feels because we lost our oldest son , Chuck , age 40 in an automobile accident last Jan. I was so sad to hear what happened to Mike. I remember how he was always smiling when I would see him when were younger. Later in life, I was lucky to get to know his daughters when I coached Brittany in cheerleading. My mom recalled today when he visited her in the lunchroom at Butler in his uniform and how handsome he was. You lose touch with people over time but I will always remember your family. Mrs. Porter I was glad to see that you are reading these entries. I can't imagine how you must feel right now. I hope reading these help all of you in some way. We missed the obituary in the paper Sunday or my Mom and I would have come by to pay our respects. My heart truly goes out to all of you. I hope your memories will help you through this horrible time.

Thank you all for you entries. I know that Michael is in our hearts. It is the hardes thing I have done to bury my son but knowing that he touched so many lives and that his memory will live on with all of us make it just a little easier for me to take.
