Dear Sharon and Family,
Dr. Shafii's ongoing legacy will be all those who he helped blossom into a happy and productive adulthood. I certainly would not be the person I am today were it not for him. For that, I will be eternally grateful to him, and to you for sharing him with us. He was a truly special person, a truly good person, and he will be dearly missed by all.

Dr. Shafii (and family): I will be forever grateful for your guidance. I really owe my successful, productive and meaningful adult life to you and your mentorship, even though I know you would say that I did all the work. You were a remarkable physician and human being...so insightful, thoughtful and caring. I was one lucky patient; Louisville was one lucky community. When you called me to tell me about your illness, you said, "Hello, my friend!" And now, I say, "Adieu, my friend," to you. I'll miss you. Bon courage to your family.

Dr. Shafii, many years ago guided my son to be the successful person he is. I cannot express the special role he played in my sons success. He also helped the entire family through the most difficult time. I pray for him always and know his family has been blessed.

Dear Sharon and family:
Jess and I are so sorry to learn of Mohammad's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are currently in Japan and will not be there to attend the visitation or funeral which we would certainly do if we were in Louisville. I have asked my friend Barbara Collins to order a cake for your family (I thought the children might enjoy a sweet) and bring it to your home. So don't be surprised if one appears on your doorstep.
Again, our sincere condolences to you and your family.
Fondly,
Susanne and Jess

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
Dr. Shafii was a great counselor and a good friend to me. I miss him very much. I want to extend sincere sympathy to his family.
