Oswald Phelps Obituary

GEORGETOWN - Phelps, Oswald C., 88, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Lincoln Hills Rehabilitation Center in New Albany, IN.

He was born in Lee, KY on August 21, 1924 the son of George Washington and Rose Brooks Phelps. He was a backhoe operator and welder for LG & E. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II, stationed on the USS Yorktown. He was a deacon at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Georgetown and a Sunday school teacher there.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 14 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Irene Embry Phelps, of Georgetown; four sons, Randall Charles Phelps (Mary) of Clarkson, KY, Ronnie Lee Phelps (Tuwanta) of New Albany, Kenny Darrell Phelps (Brenda) of Floyds Knobs, IN and Drewey Dwayne Phelps (Cindy) of Crandall, IN; a daughter, Peggy Jean Rosenbarger (Lynn) of Lanesville, IN; one brother, James Phelps of Sellersburg, IN; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown. Pastor Herman Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Edwardsville Cemetery in Edwardsville, IN. There will be military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown on Friday from 2 -8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
