When Pat came up to Portland to visit his father that was ill, we got together and shared some fun times. He is the nicest guy in the world. We both enjoyed running. I liked his style of running, long leg strides and using his arms by stretching them and reaching forward and down. I used that technique in my long distance running as an adult. He was such a great roll model to everyone; he loved and cared for everyone. You could be a stranger on the street and if you were in need, he would help you. He was a real angel on Earth. I will never forget your kindness Pat❣

I love you, Pat. Such a warm, funny, and downright heartwarming individual-and a great person to know from Vernonia, Oregon. I bet your wife, boys & family miss you so much. I can't imagine. I remember the last time I saw Pat was at the 100 yr. Anniversary. Of our school. He was saying how he loved his family, and his classmates of Vernonia. He said the best thing he taught his boys was how to use a washing machine. We joked & laughed and I lost one of my son's shortly there after-never 2 take up that great advice. Thanks for the memories-and you sure could run, Gump!

Pat could light-up any room he entered and you always were aware of his exuberant presence.
I met Pat in January of 2001 at my first McGraw-Hill Sales Meeting in St. Louis. He was fun to sit next to at these meetings, albeit a time when we would get scolded for not paying attention to the speaker!
Pat was a wonderful person who loved life, his friends, and his family dearly. To this group I say, we were lucky to have had him in our lives!
Finally, these lines from a great American writer always help me cope with a loss such as Pat's passing........
A PSALM OF LIFE
WHAT THE HEART OF THE YOUNG MAN
SAID TO THE PSALMIST
TELL me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream ! —
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real ! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal ;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Pat was probably the best long distance runner to ever come out of Vernonia High School. His teammates enjoyed his enthusiasm and leadership. My sympathies go out to his wife, children, and his brothers and sisters.

Even though it's been years since Pat taught at Lourdes, I still remember all the fun we had. Pat could turn the mundane school days into a party. Kathy, Dan and all Pat's family, I know your hearts are broken. Seems too unreal even for those who have just read the news and not lived it with him. I know his memory will bring smiles to each of you in all the days ahead. What a great guy! Joyce O'Neil, OLOL, ret.

Pat was an amazing teacher, man and friend. We knew and loved him as a math tutor to our mathematically-challenged son. His joy for life, his love for people, and his pure heart gave us so much to admire and emulate. We thank God for his presence in our lives. With deepest sympathy and love, Ida, Jim, and Eric Hazard

Pat was such a wonderful neighbor and help to my mom. Our family will always be grateful to him for his kindliness and his assistance to her. I will miss his general enthusiasm for the simple joys in life, and for life in general. His own life was well-lived.

Pat was an amazing man and I enjoyed his friendship for many years. His humor and laughter and stories about the boys were always the topic of conversation during our "business" dinners. During my last conversation with Pat two weeks ago, I told him Heaven was going to be one big party, with Pat, his family and other recent comedians that recently passed. He agreed and was completely at peace with God's plan for him.
