Paul Disney Obituary

DISNEY, PAUL EDWARD JR., 83, of Louisville, died suddenly at his home Sunday, November 21, 2010.

He retired as chairman of Disney Tire Co., a business he co-founded with his father and managed with his sons and brother-in-law for over 50 years. He was instrumental in the formation of several national private brand tire companies and held various leadership positions in the tire industry. He was a board member of Future Federal Savings and Loan.

Mr. Disney was an active alumnus of Male High School, and an avid fan of the University of Louisville where he attended the undergraduate college as well as the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He was also active in the Kosair Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of the Louisville Boat Club and the Pendennis Club and a former member of Big Spring Country Club. He was a faithful member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church for over 50 years.

Mr. Disney was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Adams Disney and Paul E. Disney Sr.; his daughter, Ann Disney Davino; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Noel Disney.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane Ashton Disney; his sons, Paul E. Disney III (Nancy) and Stephen A. Disney (Cathleen C.); and five grandchildren, Paul Disney IV (Sarah), Jennifer Disney, Laura Disney, Clark Disney and Christine Disney. Also surviving are his sister, Thelma Tolakis (Emanuel); and two nieces, Laura Tolakis and Dana Tolakis German; and her daughter, Ariann German.

Paul will be remembered by his family and many friends as a devoted husband and father, a lover of landscape and gardening, a diplomat with a quick wit and disarming nature..."a true gentleman." Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m., and a reception to follow on Sunday, November 28 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane Louisville, KY 40207.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Matthews Episcopal Church at the address above or to Kosair Charities, P.O. Box 37370 Louisville, KY 40233-9926.

Dear Jane,
We still miss Paul and Steve very much. They were real gentlemen and a pleasure with which to have done business. It doesn´t seem possible that it has been 12 years since Paul passed away. I know that you still cherish the wonderful memories of your lives together. Our thoughts and prayers still go out to you and the family. Mother passed away in 2012 and Dad in 2018. We miss them immensely also.

Love,
Deb and Gary Berry
