Richard Kern Obituary

Kern, Richard N. "Buddy",

90, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016.

He graduated from Louisville Male High School where he was captain of Male High School's first state champion baseball team in 1944. He was inducted into the Male High School Hall of Fame in 2002.

After graduation he signed a pro baseball contract with the then AAA Louisville Colonels where he was a member of the AAA World Series Championship team that defeated the Baltimore Orioles. His career lasted 8 years after which he returned to Louisville and began a career in sales and retired from Sysco Food Systems.

He was instrumental in forming what is now know as Germantown Baseball League and was president of the league in 1971 and 1972.

He was a kind, thoughtful and considerate husband, and a wonderful father and grandfather. He had such impact on our lives, everything we know about kindness, love and forgiveness we owe to our Dad. He leaves us with many wonderful childhood memories and will always continue to impact our lives. We love you Dad.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Reidling Kern; his son, Keith (Janis); and daughter, Lisa Rausch (Jeff); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

We would like to thank the staff of Parkway Medical and Rehabilitation Center for their care these past several months. They have been truly wonderful.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p. m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers donations to Grace Immanuel Church, 1612 Story Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206 would be appreciated.

Carol, Keith & Lisa,

Sorry to hear of Buddy's passage. I enjoyed being in his company all those days at the ballpark. He was an inspirational leader, a respected competitor and a good friend to me and those who crossed his path. Cherish the memories as we do. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Keith, I remember standing in your garage when we were in the 10th grade and seeing the pic of your dad in his baseball uniform. I said "Wow, you look just like him." You replied something like "Oh man, thanks a lot, that's all I need to hear." Of course, you were kidding. So sorry for your loss.
