Richard E. Zogg

Louisville - Richard E. Zogg was born April 29, 1924 in Belleville, Illinois, the middle son of Adolph G. Zogg and Adalia S. Joerg. He grew up in Belleville and upon graduation from High School started college at Blackburn College. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII where he served on several LSTs in the Pacific. Following the war he resumed his higher education at the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in chemistry. After leaving school he was employed by Sinclair Oil Company in Chicago in their research department where he met his wife to be, Marie Anette Flack. The Couple returned to Belleville and he began work with the Midwest Rubber Reclaiming Company. They began raising their four children in Belleville. While in Belleville he was a member of the Jaycees and volunteered in the administration of the American Red Cross. He also attended night school at St. Louis University and obtained an MBA. He later taught night school classes in business administration at both St. Louis University and Bellarmine College in Louisville. In 1967 the family moved to Louisville, KY where Richard was employed by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in their Research Department. He later left B&W and took the position of Director of Health Sciences Labs at the University of Louisville Medical School. After a reorganization at the school he left to work in the administration of the Archdiocese of Louisville, from where he retired in 1988. As the Catholic representative he sat on a local interfaith council in Louisville. He continued being active in the Red Cross in Louisville and at one time was head of Disaster Services. Upon retirement Dick and Anette enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. and playing pickle ball. He was on a planning board in the early days of E.P. Tom Sawyer Park and was part of the group which started the pickleball playing at the park. He is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Robert and Carl. He is survived by his wife of 72 years as well as four children, William and his spouse Lorraine of Houston, TX, Janice of Vancouver, WA, Paul of Boulder, CO, and Judith of Houston, TX. January 10, 2021

I am grateful that our paths crossed through our work together in the Kentuckiana Interfaith Community and the Office of Ecumenism of the Archdiocese of Louisville. Dick and his wife were faithful witnesses to the desire of Christ that the church would be together. Our community is a better place because of his faithfulness and witness.
