Roberta Ashe Obituary

ASHE, ROBERTA "ROBBIE" HICKS, 64, peacefully passed away Friday, July 29, 2005, at her home with her family by her side. She had been ill with ALS/Lou Gehrigs disease for several years. She was an Episcopalian. She was a native of Columbia County, NY, nestled between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the Hudson River Valley. Robbie and her husband, John, were married in the Lady Chapel, St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, in 1964. She and John happily moved to Louisville in 1965 where they found a wonderful place for family, nature careers and the arts. She had a colorful public relations career with Stitzel-Weller Distillery (Old Fitzgerald), Churchill Downs, Inc., and Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. Robbie earned an associates of art degree in Liberal Arts from Green Mountain College, Poultney, VT. and a bachelors of arts in Communication from Spalding University, Louisville, both Magna Cum Laude. During her career she was a member of numerous professional organizations, such as the Public Relations Society of America and a volunteer for many community organizations, including the Crisis and Information Center. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, John; daughter, Alison (Bill) Stemler, of Shelbyville, KY.; son, Michael Ashe of Los Angeles, CA.; sister, Carolyn Hicks of Saratoga Springs, NY; two granddaughters, Hannah and Hallie Stemler; first cousin Charles (Kay) Ness of Colorado Springs, CO.; and the family labradors, Heidi and Scout. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial gifts may be given to the ALS Association, KY. Chapter 2375 Fortune Dr., Lexington KY. 40509 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr., Louisville, KY. 40205-3224
