Ronald Zolkiewicz Obituary

Zolkiewicz , Ronald Walter Jr.,

(born 7-27-69) adored husband of Heidi, beloved son of Ronald Sr. and Sandra, bigger-than-life brother to Michael and Christine left this world a better place on Wednesday, September 20th. His heart was destined for more as he departed all too soon, relaxing in his home in Crestwood at age 48.

Ron will be remembered for his devotion to the love of his life- Heidi, his generosity, his ability to put smiles on the faces of all he met, his massive capacity to love and his irreverent humor known lovingly as "Uncle Wrong." He held unrivaled qualities: his ability to make friends with strangers, to build the perfect fire, his faith in God, protector of all he loved, admirer of an amazing sunset, the creator of 'love sauce,' seeker of the perfect beach, instigator of excitement and lover of music. Ron lived a passionate life with an immense love for Peaches, his family, his friends and of course his beloved Stella & Micah. There exists a Ron-sized impression on all of us who were blessed to have enjoyed such a force of nature and love.

His family welcomes all who would like to celebrate Ron's life during a Memorial this Tuesday, Sept. 26th at 7:00pm at the Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, KY.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of one of my boyhood neighbors passing! Ron you were a great friend! For his family I would like to share a few stories of growing up with Ron!

Ron was my neighbor from the time I was a child. He lived in the back of our neighborhood Hunting Creek/Fox Harbor. Ron lived with his parents then and he was simply a fun young man and friend. Back then I was very envious of him as our neighborhood was very much under "construction". What this meant was Ron hand access to piles and piles of dirt to create a motorcross track he and Tim Gurtz shared behind their homes. What a blast it was to watch and learn how to ride a motorcycle as a young boy and Ron was willing to share his bike every now and then!

We were blessed to live in the neighborhood in which we did! It seems like we had hundreds of kids of which to hang around with or simply get into mischief!

Our mischief grew much bolder as we got older and Ron was never one to back away from an adventure! I'm sure his parents never heard of some of these stories but they are worth sharing! By now we were in high school and I was desperate to visit a certain young lady who lived near Seneca Park but I didn't have a way to get there!

Ron laughed and he said he would be happy to take me there . . .on his motorcycle! Mind you it wasn't street legal but a motor cross bike! We headed there and made it all the way to the park when he decided it would be faster if we cut across the field. It had been raining and the field was slightly muddy and slick with the wet grass! We were kids on a mission going too fast when we hit a rut and crashed sliding across the field (near the stables). Man did we laugh at how muddy, wet and most likely lucky we were to not get hurt!

Just one year after this most of the upper class-men were getting into snow skiing with our school, Ballard. I grew up with Ron and never knew he skied! Back then the easiest place to go was Paoli Peaks. On one of the trips Ron showed up. He seemed to be a very confident skier but was not aware of the different runs and obstacles. Since Paoli was primarily made from blown, manmade snow they always created a huge pile of blown snow called Mount Eagle, to fill the bald spots as the season progressed. Now Ron, again a good skier, looked down the run he spotted this huge pile but decided, for some reason, to just attack this pile of snow. If I wasn't there I would not have believed what he did but he went straight from the lodge to Mt. Eagle and simply sailed off the top. This is not an exaggeration but he must have dropped 25 to 30 feet from the top of this mound to the true run below. He crashed, massively, what we later dubbed yard sales as your poles skies and other gear were all over the place. We rushed down to check on him and there he was with a slight cut on his chin and cheek, but nothing else was wrong with him! I was amazed and from then on he was one of my ski friends.

Ron went with me and my brother and sister on numerous UofL ski trips! Again, even more that could be shared!

Ron thank you for being a part of my youth and young adult life! Even though it has been several years since we last saw each other, Northeast Christian Church, where I met his beloved wife. Ron looked very much like a happily married man and it was old times all over again!

So sorry for your loss! Ron you will be missed and you did make a huge impact on more lives than you may have ever known. Rest in peace my friend!
