ACT I: The devoted and beloved wife and mother was born Sarah Malvena Metry on May 19, 1971 in Louisville, KY to Jan and Bob Metry. She was a lifelong member of St Michael's Orthodox Church. Because of their exceeding love for her in her youth, Wayne T. and Cheryl Smith accepted her as another daughter because of Sarah's sisterly love to their only child, Ashley. She attended Sacred Heart Model School and Collegiate High School. Her love of the theatre was nursed at Walden Theatre from the age of 6, and blossomed at NYU at the Tisch School of Arts. After graduating from NYU, Sarah returned to Louisville to work for Walden and eventually as a corporate fund raiser for Fund for the Arts. After a presentation for Fund for the Arts, she was offered a position at U.S. Bank. She completed her MBA at Bellarmine University, and worked as a branch manager until she met her husband.

Act II: Sarah married in 2002, and in the same year, fulfilled an enduring desire to become a teacher. She received her M.Ed. from Spalding University and worked untiringly with dedicated love for JCPS at Crosby Middle School, teaching drama, math and reading. In 2006, she took on the role of a lifetime, as a mother, which she performed perfectly.

Act III: All good theatre requires conflict. Sarah fought a lengthy battle of cancer since 2010. She entered eternal rest on Aug 20, 2014. She is loved by her surviving husband, Mark, and children Elias (8) and Mary (5); Mark's mother, Diana, and father and step-mother, Salim and Paula; mother, Jan; father, Bob, three older brothers: Robbie (Jerianne), David (Jackie) with children Emme and Nick, and Doug with children Parker and Ellie; as well as countless family members and friends, including all of those associated with Gilda's Club, which was a source of healing. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Mary.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday followed by Trisagion prayers at St Michael Orthodox Church, 3701 St Michael Church Dr, at the corner of Furman Blvd. and Hikes Lane, and Saturday 11 a.m., until the Funeral Service at 1 p.m.. Funeral will be followed by burial at Cave Hill Cemetery, and mercy meal at St Michael's. Donations in Sarah's memory may be made to St Michaels Orthodox Church.
