The news of Sherman's passing is devastating. Sally has known Sherman for close to 50 years and I have known him for more than 40 years. He was the best person we ever met. More than his brilliance was his heart.

Dr. Elias was such a kind and gentle man. He took me out to dinner when I interviewed for fellowship at UT Memphs and introduced me to sushi for the first time. Later, he wrote a letter of recommendation for me for promotion to Professor at Duke. I am so sorry for your loss.

You have our deepest and sincerest condolences. Sherman knew me longer than I knew him. We both belonged to Keneseth Israel. I remember Sherman as a camp counselor at Camp Riccaree (sic) and of course blowing the shofar every Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. Sherman was one of those rare people that you could neevr say anything bad about. May it comfort you to know that his memory will be for a blessing.
