Sherman was a long time friend and colleague who will now be sadly missed. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife and family. Marie and Laird Jackson

I am so very saddened by the news of Sherman's passing. I liked him instantly when we first met at our office in New York, and I have enjoyed working with him on his book. I greatly admire his remarkable achievements. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

The news of Sherman's passing is devastating. Sally has known Sherman for close to 50 years and I have known him for more than 40 years. He was the best person we ever met. More than his brilliance was his heart.

Marsha and I were very saddened to hear this awful news tonight, and sorry we could not be there for the family. We have many fond memories of our family's time with Sherman, Shelly and the boys while they were in Houston. Our condolences to the family. -- Marsha and Lonnie Schooler

Dear Shelley and Family,
I am so very sorry to hear about Sherman's passing away. May your fondest memories provide you with much comfort now and always and may his memory be for a blessing.

Dr. Elias was such a kind and gentle man. He took me out to dinner when I interviewed for fellowship at UT Memphs and introduced me to sushi for the first time. Later, he wrote a letter of recommendation for me for promotion to Professor at Duke. I am so sorry for your loss.

Please accept my condolences. Sherman was a respected and valued colleague chair and we shared many productive projects. His academic legacy is profound.

Sherman moved next door to me on Floyd St. when Cantor Elias started at KI. We were friends since we were about 5 yrs old. How lucky I was to have known that lovely family...
