As a former Xaverian Brother, I think that Brother Desales Lawless typifies, in his own unique way, the fact that the Xaverian Brothers always let their men develop their full potential. Both the Brothers in general and Brother Desales Lawless in particular have been and are a gift to our world.

May you rest in the heaven we all believe exists. Once a graduate of St. Joseph Prep in Bardstown, KY myself, always respect for such a terrific mind as Brother Thomas must have been, and his accomplishments in this life were outstanding.

Brother Lawless was a great mentor and friend. He was definitely one of a kind. He dedicated his life in helping students. He was my undergraduate professor at Fordham University. I also had the privilege and honor of working with him at Rockefeller University. As an undergraduate, he supported me and helped me achieve my dream of becoming a physician. This is a sad day and a great loss. He will be greatly missed but he will never be forgotten. God Bless You.

Brother DeSales was the Principal of Bardstown St. Joe while I was there.
Thanks for the guidance.

Although I did not know Brother DeSales personally, I did know his family from Hazel Street in the west end. What a wonderful, inspiring life he had. My sympathies to the family.

While I was never a student of Brother DeSales (I attended St. Joe Prep 1945-47 and Flaget 1947-49), I greatly respected he and his Xaverian Brothers. My prayers go to him and his family. William H. Mattingly CAPT (Ret.) USNR
