Charles was born in Lowell on July 26, 1946. Charles was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Bakewell) Wilson. Charles attended Tewksbury Schools and was a graduate of Tewksbury High School where he was an All Star Basketball Player. After graduation Charles attended Boston University and received a Bachelor's Degree. He then went on to earn a Masters Degree from Boston University and a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University. Education was central to Charles's core. In Charles's free time, he and William traveled around the world several times. Peru, China, India, and Europe were some of their favorite spots to visit. They enjoyed dining out, and seeing films, especially those staring local native, Bette Davis. Charles was always reading novels and loved learning things through books. He could often be found on Ogunquit, Maine beach with a good book. For over 30 years he took care of William. They were very much loved partners.

In addition to his partner William Sarmento of Ogunquit, Maine, Charles is survived by his niece Margaret "Peg" (Tompkins) DiBella and her husband Al of West Windsor, VT, his nephew Robert "Bob" Tompkins and his wife Judith (Deveau) of Pittsfield, VT, grandnephews, Kenneth Tompkins and his wife Lowansa and their son, Vaughn, Collin Tompkins and Sarah Donnelly , and their children, Charles and Liam; grandnieces Sarah DiBella Gurr and her husband Michael and their son Elijah and Katherine Dibella Blackman and her husband Colton; many dear friends in New York, New Jersey, and Ogunquit, Maine. Years a go, Charlie and I became friends through a mutual friend, Richard Fowler. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill around that time as well. Charlie always remembered to send a birthday card and the occasional postcard from St Thomas, their favorite Caribbean destination. Charlie, you were such a class act. Always a gentleman, smart, charming, funny. How you are missed! My sincere condolences to Bill and family. I am just now learning of your passing, dear Charlie. Go with the angels, my friend.

My sincere condolences to cousin Bill and Charles's family. Charles was a great guy who really cared about people and education. I always enjoyed my chats with him about education and history and sharing meals with him and Bill on our visits. My partner Mitch and I are heartbroken about his passing and that we could not extend our condolences in person during the service. We sadly missed this news partly due to the fact that we were dealing with my brother Paul Malone in respite care and his passing away on April 26. We sincerely hope that now my brother Paul and Charles are without pain and suffering and will now enjoy the peace and calming effects of the equivalent of the beach and ocean in heaven. May they both rest in eternal peace! Warmest regards!

I enjoyed working with Dr. Wilson when he was interim superintendent of schools in Hastings on Hudson, NY. I was a board trustee, and he served our schools and students well when we were in need of leadership. On a personal note, he encouraged me to speak up and find my voice on behalf of our students and community. Ever the teacher, he made a point to be supportive when I needed it. He touched so many people positively in his brief time in our district. My condolences to his partner and extended family. May his memory be a blessing.
