LOWELL -- Claire Louise (Grenier) Tarpey, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully August 3, 2013, at D'Youville Senior Care, after a long period of declining health, aged 91 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Tarpey.

She was born July 30, 1922 in Fitchburg, MA, a daughter of the late Omer L. and Virginia (Cote) Grenier. Claire attended Dracut Grammar School and was a graduate of Dracut High School with the Class of 1940.

Mrs. Tarpey became associated with the VA Hospital at Fort Devens as a dental secretary for a time, and then at the VA Hospital in Bedford as a secretary in the psychiatric department. Claire was also an esthetician, and operated her own beauty services for several years.

An avid reader and student of the bible, Claire was a devout Seventh Day Adventist, and for many years, was a member of the Lowell Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a talented artist who specialized in water color and oils, and an accomplished pianist and organist, devoting her musical talents to play at church services.

She is survived by a daughter, Lisa McGrath and her husband, Timothy of Windham, NH; two grandchildren, Hannah McGrath and Ryan McGrath, both of Windham, NH, and two sisters, Rita Ducas of Fallbrook, CA, and Theresa Lemire of Tucson, AZ.

She was the sister of the late Gerard Jeffrey Grenier, and the aunt of the late Diane Murphy.
