Dimitrios Skambas Obituary

DRACUT -- Dimitrios Skambas, 70, a resident of Dracut, died Wednesday, March 21, at the Palm Manor Rehab Center with his family by his side.

He was the husband of Barbara (Hatzisavas) Skambas to whom he was married for 42 years.

He was born in Mytilini, Greece, June 13, 1936, son of the late Athanasios and Christina (Mamolou) Skambas.

Mr. Skambas served in the Greek Army attaining the rank of sergeant. He is a former council member for the Island of Lesvos Association.

He came to the United States on Dec. 5, 1968, and made his home in Medford and moved to Dracut in 1980.

Mr. Skambas made his living opening and operating pizza restaurants throughout the Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston area.

He was a former member of the Dormition of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Somerville. He was a current member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut

Mr. Skambas was a hard worker who loved being with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Arthur Skambas of Dracut, and Peter Skambas of North Andover; a grandson, Dimitri Skambas of Dracut; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Maria Skambas of Arlington; a sister and brother-in-law, Bessie and George Andreou of Medford.

He also leaves a brother-in-law, Stavros Hatzisavas of Greece; as well as many nieces and nephews.
