She was the wife of James G. Manekas with whom she celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Aug. 31.
She was born in Lowell, July 4, 1920, daughter of the late Antonio and Joanne (Nickolopoulos) Savaris. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1938.
Mrs. Manekas was the owner with her husband James of Colonial Maid Ice Cream Co.
She was a communicant and member of the choir of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell.
She was the 1994 recipient of the Archdiocese Laity Award for outstanding service within the Greek Orthodox Church, was a member of the Tuesday morning Craft Group, The Century Club, The Daughters of Penelope, the Philoptohos Society, the Committee for Hellenic Nursing Home, and hosted the breakfast for the Name Day of the Trinity Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Maureen Manekas of Nashua, N.H; a daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Spencer Apostolos of Chelmsford; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Zoghopoulos of Lowell, Sophie Vasilakopoulos and her husband, John of Chelmsford, and Penny Nicholas of Lowell.
She also leaves a brother-in-law, Steve Manekas and his wife, Doris of Chelmsford; a sister-in-law, Penny Metaxes and her husband, Fr. Emanuel Metaxas of Watertown; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Harry and Stella Savaris.
