George Aprahamian Obituary

Founder and longtime Owner and

Treasurer of Prelco Corporation

Dracut

George Aprahamian, 89, a Dracut resident for over 60 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a period of declining health on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the widower of the late Barbara (Savard) Aprahamian.

George was born in Lowell on June 13, 1932 and was a son of the late Garabed and the late Aghavni (Kirkorian) Aprahamian. He was raised in Lowell, where he attended the area schools before earning his Bachelor's Degree in Business and Accounting at Bentley University.

In his younger years, he tinkered and built model rockets. He also loved his time spent taking his beloved wife, Barbara into Boston to listen to jazz music.

George was one of the three founders and owners of Prelco Corporation in Lowell with with the late Gene Gessner and Bernie Holmes. Founded in 1962, Prelco was a nationally recognized precision sheet metal manufacturing company. He worked as Prelco's treasurer for over 50 years. During this time he also owned and operated another firm, Masters Corporation, with Gene and Bernie. In his spare time he was also a licensed airplane pilot.

He was a dedicated family man, father of 6 and lifelong member of Saints Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church in Chelmsford. His church and Armenian heritage were a great source of pride and inspiration throughout George's long and accomplished lifetime. The culmination of this being the Prelco manufactured cross that adorns the top of Saints Vartanantz to this day. In his later years he also clung to the music of his homeland of Armenia. Boating with his sons and grandsons was also something he enjoyed.

He instilled the traditional values of hard work and the power of will in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Teaching them that most of the time, doing things yourself was the best way. Be it even plumbing and electrical work George was never afraid to roll his sleeves up and work. That is a part of his living legacy left behind in his family.

George is survived by his 6 children, Pamela Frechette and her husband, Maurice of Amherst, NH, Donna Aprahamian of Lowell, Charles Aprahamian of Dracut, George Aprahamian and his wife, Holly of Pepperell, Abraham Aprahamian and his wife, Karen of Methuen, and Robert Aprahamian of Hampstead, NH.

He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Kristylee Ignacio and her husband, Daniel of Lowell, Nichole Pfennigwerth and her husband, Nikolaus of York, ME, Garret Frechette of Mount Vernon, NH, Ashley Aprahamian of Pepperell, Tyler Aprahamian of Pepperell, Zakariah Aprahamian of Hampstead, NH, Sarkis Aprahamian of Hampstead, NH, and James Aprahamian of Methuen; his 2 great grandchildren, George and Gianna Ignacio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, the late Al Abrahamian.
