Howard I. Chechik, of Chelmsford, MA died Monday April 24, 2023 at Chelmsford Crossings after a period of declining health.

He was married to Paula L. Chechik for 61 years before her passing in 2021. What started as a blind date while his Naval ship was in port in Boston, turned into a true love story spanning more than six decades. Even in his final weeks, Dad still referred to himself as "the luckiest guy in the world."

Born in the Bronx, NY on August 28, 1931, Howard was the son of the late Harry Chechik and Estelle (Eisenberg) Chechik. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute with bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering. After graduating, he proudly served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1957.

Howard's career later included companies like Teledyne, Masoneilan, GE, and ultimately he retired as President of Lawrence Pump & Engine. Dad's career brought him all across the globe but home was wherever Mom and their kids were. Together they had the most amazing marriage and were truly devoted to each other, never wanting to be far from each other's side. They raised their family in Andover, MA and later moved to Chelmsford.

Howard is survived by son David Chechik (Kara Martakos) of Ipswich and daughters Lisa Kauhl (Jim) of Windham, NH and Stephanie McElligott (Steve) of Westford and was a devoted "Poppy" to grandchildren Sam and Paige Kauhl, Brynn, Cullen and Teagan McElligott, and Kayden Martakos. He was predeceased by his grandson Ronan McElligott.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Chelmsford Crossings and Beacon Hospice for the care and compassion when Dad needed it most.
