The Lord in His will receive your soul

When we moved to Roanoke Rapids in 1987, we met Fr. Keaney during our first visit to the town. I returned to New York and told my friends that I had met a priest who was like Pope John XXVIII, that this priest would surprise people with the amount of work he did in his later years, just like Pope John XXVIII had done. I just knew in my heart it would be that way, the first time I attended his Mass. And so it was... he began to study the Spanish language at the age of 68, and he gave unstintingly of himself, even in the teeth of trials and misunderstandings. He was always kind and loving, prayerful and holy. He was a dear friend and I miss him. He was tough when he needed to be and that was such a good thing, because he led us in the way of truth.
Eternal Rest grant unto Msgr. James Patrick Keaney, O Lord,
May Perpetual Light shine upon him.
May Msgr. James Patrick Keaney, and all of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, all in union with St. Joseph. Amen.

Msgr. Keaney was so beloved by the Hispanic community where he celebrated the Mass at St.Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Warrenton, NC. He was an inspiration to us all from about 2003 -2005.
