James Stamas Obituary

Store owners of 7-11 in Pawtucketville for nearly 40 years.

James L. Stamas, and his wife Anastasia (Anganes) Stamas of Lowell, passed away within two days of each other on December 24th (Jimmy) and 26th (Ann) after 65 years of marriage. Jimmy was the son of Louis and Esther (Kostoulakos) Stamas and Ann the daughter of Christos and Stella (Contos) Anganes.

Jimmy and Ann lived their entire lives in Lowell but some of their fondest memories were made at their summer beach home in Rye, NH, which they built from the ground up in the late 70's. They were most generous to their extended family and hosted numerous gatherings at the beach.

Jimmy graduated from the Lowell Public Schools (class of '52), was a member of the National Guard for six years, and attended 'Lowell Tech' which led to a career in mechanical inspection at Raytheon and Avco. However, he found his passion being a business owner of the 7-11 store on Mammoth Road in the Pawtucketville neighborhood of Lowell for nearly 40 years, where most residents knew him for his warm smile, generous nature and especially for his quick wit. Jimmy will certainly be remembered for his incredible sense of humor.

Ann also graduated from Lowell High School (class of '53) and worked in Boston and Raytheon in Lowell. She was a longtime member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, where she was also a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Ann was an animal lover, and she cherished her family pets, often taking in strays to ensure their safety and well-being. She was the epitome of health and would be often seen taking her daily 2 mile walk along the Boulevard in Lowell.

Together, Jimmy and Ann also started the Canadian Sausage Company, which was a family run business for five years. Jimmy and Ann enjoyed traveling during their retirement and spent time each winter in Ft. Lauderdale FL.

Jimmy and Ann will be missed, and are survived, by their sons, George and his wife Maureen, and Lenny and his wife Glouie. They are predeceased by their son Stephen, whom they missed terribly since he passed away in 2012. Jimmy and Ann loved their family and were very proud of all of their grandchildren, including Matthew and David Stamas of Martha's Vineyard, Helen Walsh of Portsmouth, NH and Katharine Stamas of No. Hampton, NH, Alyssa and Lindsay Stamas, both of Nashua, NH. Ann is survived by her sister, Dorothy and her husband Ed Costa of Dracut, MA. Jimmy was predeceased by his siblings Stella Couris, Peter, George and Harry Stamas.

They leave behind their 7 great-grandchildren Jace, Noah, Jayce, Ember, Alaina, Rose and Ophelia.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2nd from 1pm to 4pm at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. Funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, Jimmy and Ann would want donations made in their name to the MSPCA (mspca.org/donate-now) or to St Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org/donate). Funeral Directors Paul A. Hardy, Jr. & Jennifer (Lebaropoulos) Hardy. For directions and online guestbook, visit DRACUTFUNERALHOME.COM and find us on Facebook.

I am so sorry to hear this terrible news about Ann and Jim. They were wonderful people, I just can´t believe this. I remember going to their beach house and also attended their wedding anniversary party a few years back. Everyone had a great time. God bless you all at this very difficult time. Life is unfair at times and always remember that both Ann and Jim are in your future and you will all be together again one day. God bless you all!
