Jimmy Boykins Obituary

Jimmy Lee Boykins
Loving Husband, Father,

Grandfather, Brother

LOWELL -- Jimmy Lee Boykins, 63 passed away on Wednesday evening, September 24, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of Colleen (Murphy) Boykins, to whom he was married for 42 years.

Jimmy was born in Shelby, NC on December 10, 1950, a son of the late Ervin and Flossie (Petty) (Boykins) Wilson. He attended school in Shelby and was a graduate of Shelby High School.

For over 40 years, Mr. Boykins was employed at Bradford Industries as a compounder. Mr. Boykins was a member of the New England Pentecostal Church in Pelham, NH.

Jimmy's life revolved around his family, and his grandchildren were his "World". Some of his pastimes included fishing, gardening, and working on his truck. He enjoyed basketball, Westerns on T.V. and traveling to Foxwoods with his wife Colleen.

Cooking, however, was his passion. His cooking evoked family and friends to gather together at his home. It was these occasions, whether formal or informal, which kept the family together.

Jimmy was a kind and compassionate person, given to hospitality. He would share what he had with those who had none. Be it a fish that he caught or a vegetable he grew in his garden.

Mr. Boykins was the father of the late James C. Boykins who died on July 6, 2000.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Colleen (Murphy) Boykins of Lowell; his children, Scott K. Boykins of W. Virginia, Jason Boykins and his wife Kelly of Lowell, and Cara Lee Boykins of Lowell; his five grandchildren, Logan, Shayla, Julian, Daiquan, and Jimmy; his three sisters, Flossie M. Allison, Rossie M. Mitchell, Lela Boykins Hall and her husband Thurman, all of Lowell; his two brothers, David L. Boykins of Lowell, and Henry L. Petty of North Carolina; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara Tyskewicz, Diane Furey and her husband Robert and Kathleen King and her husband Everett. Mr. Boykins also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jimmy was the brother of the late Edith Settles, Rita Douglas, Anthony Boykins, and Betty Ann Boykins, and brother-in-law of the late James A. Mitchell.

Colleen & Family, My heartfelt condolences go out to you all. I must admit I have nothing but good memories of Cousin JimmyLee & Cousin Colleen as we would spend many weekends in either Connecticut or Massachusetts cooking out, laughing, and sharing childhood stories. When times get hard, try to focus on those good times and know that Cousin JimmyLee is in the best of company now. Love you All!
