MILFORD, NH -- Mr. John Manuel Karanas of Milford, NH formerly of N. Chelmsford, MA died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Community Hospice in Merrimack, NH.
He was married to the late Jean (Boulanger) Karanas who died June 10, 1996.
John was born in Lowell, MA on December 12, 1934, the son of the late Stefano and Leoza (Simard) Karanas. He was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1953 and attended Lowell Technical Institute.
He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a radio operator stationed in Guam.
He was employed with AT&T and Lucent Technologies of Haverhill, MA until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of N. Chelmsford, MA.
John enjoyed nature as well as spending a summer day at Hampton Beach, NH. However, he loved socializing and catching up with friends and family over a cup of coffee.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen and her husband Michael Nastasia of Nashua, NH and Janet Abrahamson of Thorndike, ME; also his beloved companion, Joan Becker of Milford, NH; an aunt, Cecile Martin, of Lowell, MA; a nephew, Michael Karanas of Billerica; five grandchildren, Eric and Adam Nastasia, Alison and her husband Jacolby Leavitt, Niki Abrahamson and Brittany Dugal, and a great- granddaughter, Maddison Leavitt. John is also survived by many grandnieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as several close friends.
He was the brother of the late Catherine LeMay and the late Victor Karanas.
KARANAS -- John Manuel Karanas of Milford, NH formerly of N. Chelmsford, MA died Nov. 5, 2011. Visiting hours Wed. 4 to 6PM. Funeral Thursday at 8AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford.
